Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while now. I got into collecting basketball cards a few years back, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. I was really curious about which cards were worth the most, especially when it came to my all-time favorite player, Larry Bird. So I started digging.
First, I scoured the internet, you know, the usual places. I read a bunch of articles and forum posts about valuable basketball cards. I learned that there are some seriously expensive cards out there. Then, I narrowed my search down to just Larry Bird cards.
- I found a few websites that listed the top 10, top 20, even top 30 most valuable Larry Bird cards.
- I started cross-referencing these lists, trying to get a good sense of which cards were consistently mentioned as being worth a lot.
- I made some notes along the way.
The one card that kept popping up was the 1980-81 Topps scoring legend card. This one isn’t just Larry Bird, it also features Magic Johnson and Julius Erving. Apparently, this card is super rare and can sell for an insane amount of money. I saw some reports that one sold for as much as $840. I mean, imagine that! Just for a piece of cardboard.
Honestly, the whole process was pretty eye-opening. I never realized how much these little pieces of cardboard could be worth. It’s a bit crazy, but also kind of fascinating. I’m still a long way from owning any of these super expensive cards, but it’s fun to dream, right? And at least now I know which cards to keep an extra special eye out for when I’m browsing through collections or hitting up card shows. This hobby is way more complex than it seems!
I plan on continuing my research and maybe even start a spreadsheet to track all this stuff. It could be helpful, and let me tell you it is interesting.
After all that research, I decided to write this little summary of what I found. I hope someone will find it interesting or helpful.
I’m going to continue exploring the card-collecting world, so maybe I’ll have more to share soon. It’s a fun hobby, that’s for sure!
