Today, let me tell you about this lady, Sahaira Sánchez. Sounds a bit fancy, right? But she’s just like any of us, nothing too special.
So, I was digging around, trying to find out more about her. Turns out, she’s married to this baseball guy, Gary Sánchez. They’re both from the Dominican Republic. I guess that’s where they met, probably grew up together or something. She seems to keep to herself mostly, not much out there about her life. But from what I gathered, they have a kid together, a daughter named Sarah. They had her back in 2014. I stumbled upon this old post from 2017 where Gary mentions her.
From a few interviews I saw with Gary, he said Sahaira and their daughter really changed him, made him a better person, both on and off the baseball field. She seems to be in her mid-20s now. Before he had a family, it was all about other things I guess.
I tried to find her social media and all that stuff, just to see what she’s about. I could only find an Instagram account with zero followers, and following 350 people. She really keeps a low profile. She’s just a regular person like the rest of us, but she’s not really sharing her life online, it seems.
I kept thinking about her name, Sahaira. Then it hit me, it sounds a bit like that story about Omayra Sánchez, from 1985. Remember that? It was all over the news, that poor girl was trapped in a mudflow after a volcano erupted in Colombia. It’s sad, you know. Omayra was stuck there, but she was talking to people, being interviewed, even though everyone knew she wasn’t going to make it. It is kind of a stretch, but it is the only thing I could think of about her name.
Anyways, I spent a good chunk of my day trying to piece together who Sahaira Sánchez is. Not much to go on, but it was interesting. I guess that is a small part of who she is. A mom, a wife, and someone who prefers to stay out of the spotlight. That’s all I could find out about her.
