Today, I’m gonna take a crack at comparing two popular basketball shoes: the Kyrie and the Dame. I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online about which one’s better, so I figured, why not put them to the test myself? Plus, I needed a new pair of kicks anyway, so this is a good excuse.
Getting Started
First things first, I went out and grabbed both pairs. I made sure to get them in my size, obviously. I wanted a fair comparison, you know? No squeezing my feet into something too small or swimming in something too big. Right off the bat, I noticed the Kyrie felt a bit more snug around my foot, while the Dame was roomier, especially in the toe box.
Putting Them to the Test

First up, some simple drills. I did some running, jumping, and quick cuts on the court. The Kyrie felt super responsive. Like, every move I made, the shoe was right there with me. The grip was insane, too. I felt like I could change directions on a dime without slipping. The Dame, on the other hand, felt a bit more… cushioned? It wasn’t as responsive as the Kyrie, but it did feel more comfortable for longer periods.

Next, I played a couple of pickup games. This is where things got interesting. With the Kyrie, I felt like I could really explode off the dribble. I was blowing past defenders and getting to the rim with ease. But after a while, my feet started to feel a little sore, especially around the balls of my feet. The Dame was a different story. I didn’t feel as quick, but my feet were definitely less fatigued. I could play for longer stretches without feeling like my feet were on fire.
Final Thoughts
So, after putting both shoes through their paces, here’s my take: The Kyrie is a beast for quick, explosive movements. If you’re a shifty guard who loves to attack the basket, this shoe is a great choice. But, be prepared for a bit of a break-in period and maybe some soreness if you’re playing for extended periods. The Dame, on the other hand, is more of a comfort-focused shoe. It’s not as responsive as the Kyrie, but it’s definitely more forgiving on your feet, which is good for those long games or practices.
Ultimately, I think it comes down to your personal playing style and what you prioritize in a shoe. You want that lightning-quick responsiveness? Go with the Kyrie. Prefer a more cushioned, comfortable ride? The Dame might be your better bet. I kept both of these for now.
