Okay, so my girlfriend’s always cold, like, always. Even in summer, she’s got a blanket wrapped around her. So I decided, you know what? I’m gonna make her the ultimate cozy blanket, something super special and handmade.
First, I hit up the craft store. Total newbie here, so I asked the lady there for help. We went with this chunky, chenille yarn – oh my god, it was SO soft. I picked out a color that’s, like, her absolute favorite, a kind of dusty rose.
Picking the Right Supplies
- Yarn: Chunky Chenille (super soft!)
- Color: Dusty Rose (her fave!)
- Hook: Went with a size 12, which seemed pretty big.
- Other: Scissors.
Next up, YouTube! I had NO idea how to crochet, like, zero. Found this “beginner’s guide to chunky blanket” tutorial and followed along. The first few rows were…rough. I kept messing up, the stitches were all wonky, and I almost gave up, seriously.
But I kept at it. Slowly, painfully, I started to get the hang of it. The basic stitch was actually pretty easy once I got the rhythm down. I put on some Netflix, made some tea, and just crocheted away. It was actually kind of…relaxing?
It took, like, a week of evenings, but I finally finished it! It’s not perfect, there are definitely some wonky spots, but overall, it’s huge, soft, and that dusty rose color is just chef’s kiss.
I gave it to her last night, and she absolutely loved it! She wrapped herself up in it immediately and said it was the coziest thing ever. Mission accomplished! Best feeling ever, seeing her so happy. 10/10 would recommend, even if you’ve never crocheted before. It’s totally worth it.
