Okay, so the other day I was working on this crossword puzzle, you know, the kind you find in the newspaper? And I got totally stuck on this one clue. It was “I don’t believe it!” and I just couldn’t figure it out. My brain was blank.
First, I tried to think of all the usual short words, like, “NO WAY!” or “HUH?” I filled in a few letters from the crossing words, hoping it would jog my memory. Nope, nothing seemed to fit right.
Then, I started brainstorming all kinds of expressions people say when they’re surprised. I mumbled to myself, “Get out!” and “You’re kidding!” I even considered some old-timey phrases like “Well, I never!” Still, nothing clicked. It was driving me crazy!
I decided to take a break. You know, sometimes you just need to step away for a bit. I got up, made a cup of tea, and stared out the window for a few minutes. Clearing my head, you know?
When I came back to the puzzle, I looked at the clue with fresh eyes. I noticed that the clue had an exclamation point. It can be several answers, like “OMG”, “Pshaw”, or even somthing like”You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me!”.
So, there I was, back at square one, but with at least a couple potential phrases to test out. It’s totally part of the crossword puzzle challenge, right?
