Well, folks, there’s been a lot of talk about whether Kevin Kisner, that golfer fella, has hung up his clubs for good. I been hearin’ folks sayin’ all sorts of things, but let me set the record straight. Kevin Kisner ain’t retired just yet, not by a long shot. You see, he’s been takin’ a bit of a break from the golf course, but that don’t mean he’s done with the game. He’s still around, just takin’ on a new role, helpin’ folks out in a different way.
Now, back in December, NBC Sports surprised a lot of us when they said Kevin Kisner was gonna be an analyst for a couple of events in 2024. That’s right, he’ll be sittin’ up there, talkin’ about the game instead of playin’ it. But don’t go thinkin’ that means he’s done swingin’ that golf club. He told Sports Illustrated himself that he ain’t ready to give up the game just yet. He’s still a tourin’ pro, playin’ in the PGA Tour, even if he ain’t playin’ as much as he used to.
But, I’ll tell ya, it sounds like he’s been goin’ through a rough patch lately. He’s talked about how he had a hard time with his game, bouncin’ between instructors and just not feelin’ like himself out there on the course. He even took a long break last season, just to get his head right. That’s somethin’ we all can relate to, I reckon. Sometimes you gotta step back and breathe for a bit before you can jump back in full force. And that’s what he did. He mentioned that it didn’t feel right standin’ on the tee box, not wantin’ to hit in front of folks. That ain’t no way to play a big ol’ tour like the PGA, that’s for sure.
But don’t go thinkin’ he’s done with all that just yet. No, sir. He’s still out there tryin’ to get it right. His career might be closer to the end than the start, but that don’t mean he’s ready to quit. Not yet anyway. And when NBC gave him the chance to be an analyst, well, he figured he could give it a try. He’ll be workin’ alongside Dan Hicks, callin’ the shots at a couple events this year, and that’s a whole new role for him. He’ll be analyzin’ what’s happenin’ on the course instead of playin’ in the middle of it. But if you think that means he’s quittin’, you’re wrong.
Now, I know a lot of folks might be confused about what’s goin’ on with Kisner’s career. Is he done with golf? Is he just gonna sit in a booth from now on? Well, the answer is a bit of both, I reckon. He’s takin’ a step back from playin’ every single tournament, but he’s still involved in the game. He’s just findin’ a different way to stay close to the action. The man loves golf, and I don’t think he’ll ever really walk away from it entirely.
As for whether or not he’s retired, well, the answer is no. Kevin Kisner has not officially retired from professional golf. He’s just takin’ a little break, focusin’ on a new opportunity. He’ll still be around, just not as much as he used to be, playin’ in all those big tournaments. But like I said before, don’t count him out yet. He might just surprise us all and come back swingin’ like never before.
Now, you might be wonderin’ about who’s gonna be takin’ over the analyst role full-time, since Kisner’s just doin’ a little bit of it here and there. Well, NBC’s still workin’ on that. They haven’t found a permanent replacement for Paul Azinger, who left the job. After Azinger left, they brought in a few folks to fill the spot, includin’ Kisner. But it looks like Kisner’s just a fill-in for now, and they’ll be tryin’ out other folks, too.
So, if you’re hopin’ to see Kevin Kisner back out there on the course, don’t worry. He’s still around, playin’ golf when he can, but he’s also takin’ a step back to try somethin’ new. I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back stronger than ever. He’s a tough one, that’s for sure. So, just stay tuned and see what the future holds for ol’ Kevin Kisner.
