Okay, so I’ve been seeing all these crazy “conference realignment rumors” flying around the internet, and honestly, it’s been driving me nuts! I decided I needed to get a handle on this myself and figure out what’s actually going on, or at least try to. So, here’s how I dove into this mess.

First, I started with the usual suspects – you know, the big sports news sites. I figured they’d have the most up-to-date info, or at least the most sensationalized versions, which is a starting point, right?
Then, I dug into some of the smaller blogs and fan forums. I figured these places might have some insider info, or at least some interesting perspectives, even if they’re a bit biased. It’s like getting the gossip from the people in the bleachers instead of just the announcers.
- Checked out message boards.
- Read through comment sections.
- Scrolled Twitter…a lot.
It became a lot. My notebook start being filled with lots of team names, conferences, and a bunch of question marks.
Next, I tried to organize all this chaos. I made a simple spreadsheet – nothing fancy, just teams on one side, potential new conferences on the other, and a column for “rumor likelihood” (totally subjective, based on my gut feeling after reading everything).
My “Rumor Reality Check” System
I basically gave each rumor a score, from 1 to 5. 1 being “total nonsense” and 5 being “practically confirmed.” It was messy, and my scores kept changing as I found more info, but it helped me visualize things.
Then came the hard part: separating fact from fiction. I started looking for patterns. If multiple sources were saying the same thing, I bumped up the “likelihood” score. If it was just one random blog with no sources, I kept it low.
I also tried to think about the why behind each rumor. Does this move make sense for the school? For the conference? Does it fit with their history, their rivalries, their financial goals? This helped me weed out some of the more outlandish claims.
Finished! It’s still a work in progress, of course. This whole conference realignment thing is a moving target. But at least now I feel like I have a slightly better grip on what’s happening, instead of just being swept away by the rumor mill.
