Okay, so I’ve been trying to get better at predicting NBA games, and tonight’s Nuggets-Grizzlies matchup seemed like a good one to try my hand at. I figured I’d share my whole process, from start to finish, so here we go.
First, I looked at the standings. You know, just to get a general sense of where both teams are at. Both teams are strong, it’s not going to be a easy game for sure.

Then, I wanted to see how they’d been playing lately. Not just wins and losses, but how they were winning or losing.
- Were they blowing teams out?
- Squeaking by in close games?
- Having any major scoring droughts?
- what about their defense?
I spent a good chunk of time just reading game recaps and watching some * to pick up on any trends or patterns.
Head-to-Head Matchups
Next, and this felt important, I checked their head-to-head record for the season. Sometimes, certain teams just match up well against others, regardless of their overall record. So I went through, it will gave me a much clearer picture.
Crunching Some Numbers
I started to get more into stats, but basic stuff, nothing too fancy. I focused on:
- Points per game (both for and against).
- Shooting percentages.
- Rebounding (offensive and defensive).
These give you a decent snapshot of a team’s strengths and weaknesses. I wrote these all down on a piece of paper, just to keep everything straight.
Considering the Intangibles
This is where it gets a bit less scientific. I tried to factor in things like:
- Home-court advantage.
- Any injuries.
- Whether either team was on a back-to-back.
- And, honestly, just my gut feeling!
Sometimes, you just get a sense about a game, you know?
Putting It All Together
So, after all that, I weighed everything up. I considered that the stats, recent play, head-to-head, and the intangibles. I leaned towards a Nuggets’ victory, but a part of me thought it could go either way.
Finally, I made my prediction. It wasn’t anything super confident, more like an educated guess. It’s all about the process, and learning from each prediction, win or lose. I will see how the game goes, and then adjust my approach for next time. It’s a fun little hobby, and it definitely makes watching the games more interesting!
