Okay, so the other day I was trying to figure out how long my nephew’s high school baseball game would be. I gotta be honest, I wasn’t sure, so I did some digging.

Figuring out the Game Length
First, I checked a couple of websites, and most of them said that a typical high school baseball game runs about 1.5 to 2 hours. But then I thought, “Wait a minute, there’s gotta be more to it than that.”
I remembered some games going much longer and some shorter, so here is what I considered:
- Level of Play:Is it a varsity game? Those might go a bit longer than, say, a freshman game because the players are more skilled.
- Pitching Changes: If there are a lot of pitching changes, that’s gonna add time, each change some warm-up pitches, plus the coach stroll to the mound.
- How the Game Goes: Close, Lots of hits and runs mean a much longer game.
My Realization
So, I realized there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. It’s not like a timed basketball game. I figured if I wanted a solid answer for planning my day, I should think of the range that I read about and maybe add a small buffer time.
Finally, I decided to block off around 2.5 hours to be safe. That way, I wouldn’t be rushing around if the game went a little long. Better to have extra time than to be rushing, right?
