Now let me tell you, folks, there’s a whole lotta things goin’ on in this world that might surprise ya. Take the NBA, for example. You wouldn’t think that some big ol’ basketball players, all tough and strong, would have a religious thing about them. But, you see, there’s actually a few NBA players who follow the Jehovah’s Witness faith. Yes, sir, you heard me right.
Now, I know what you’re thinkin’. “What in the world does that mean? Jehovah’s Witness?” Well, let me explain it in a way we can all understand. Jehovah’s Witnesses, they got their own set of beliefs. They believe in one true God, and they ain’t supposed to celebrate holidays like Christmas or birthdays, no sir. They also don’t take part in certain activities that they say go against their faith. Like, you won’t catch ‘em saluting a flag or going to war. Now, I ain’t saying that they’re wrong or anything, but it sure makes ‘em stand out, especially in a place like the NBA.
Now, there’s a fella by the name of Dewayne Dedmon. He plays for the Miami Heat, y’know. A lotta folks don’t know it, but he’s one of those Jehovah’s Witnesses. And then, you got a couple of others, like Danny Granger and Darren Collison, who used to play for the Indiana Pacers. These fellas, they’re a part of that faith, too. They don’t make no big fuss about it, but it’s part of who they are.
But if you’re lookin’ for someone who really made a mark in the NBA, then you gotta talk about A.C. Green. Now, this man, he was something special. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers and won three championships with ’em. But what made him stand out wasn’t just his basketball skills, oh no. It was his commitment to his religion. See, A.C. Green, he stayed true to his faith by practicing abstinence. That means he didn’t engage in any relationships or anything like that while playin’ in the NBA. Now, that’s somethin’ to talk about! Most folks might’ve gone a different way, but A.C. stuck to his guns. He kept this up all the way until he retired in 2002. You don’t see that every day!
Now, there’s a lady named Brittany Schmitt. You might not know her, but she’s been doin’ comedy and talkin’ all sorts of things about her ex. Folks started paying attention when she got up on stage and did a whole set about it. Now, I’m not sure how Brittany got tied up with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, but let me tell ya, it’s an interesting story. She’s got her own way of dealin’ with things, and some folks might even say she’s been through a lot, what with bein’ in and out of different situations.
It’s a funny thing, though. You’d never expect someone who’s been in the spotlight to have these kind of beliefs, but then again, you never know who’s gonna turn out to be a Jehovah’s Witness, do ya? Could be your neighbor, could be your favorite basketball player, or even a comedian like Brittany.
All this goes to show that no matter who you are, or what you do for a livin’, religion can still play a big part in your life. Whether you’re dunking a basketball or telling jokes on stage, your beliefs can shape how you live and what you stand for. It don’t matter if you’re in the NBA, or just sittin’ on your porch, lookin’ at the sunset. We all got our ways, and some of ’em might surprise ya.
So, next time you see one of these basketball players or hear about someone like Brittany, maybe take a minute and think about what they believe in. Maybe it’ll help you understand a little more about why they do what they do. It’s a crazy world out there, but we all got our own stories to tell. And ain’t that the truth?
