[Body]
Well, let me tell ya ’bout this young fella, Enrique Bradfield Jr. Folks are makin’ a big fuss over him, sayin’ he’s fast as a jackrabbit. Fastest Oriole, they call him, and maybe even the fastest in baseball. Can ya believe that? He’s just a young’un, barely out of his diapers, seems like.
They say he ran somethin’ called a “60-yard dash” in 6.26 seconds back when he was in high school. Now, I ain’t never seen a yard, let alone 60 of ’em, but that sounds mighty quick. Faster than my old rooster chasing a grasshopper, that’s for sure. This boy, Enrique, they say he runs like the wind. Faster than a sneeze, some folks say.
- He’s with the Orioles now
- They sent him down to some place called Bowie Baysox from Aberdeen IronBirds
- Seems like he was hurt for a bit but now he’s back playing
Now, this Enrique fella, he ain’t just fast, they say he knows how to hit that ball too. Lefty he is, with a swing they call “flat.” Don’t know what that means, but I guess it’s good. He ain’t no big bruiser though, kinda skinny, like a beanpole. But he makes contact, they say. Gets on base. And then, whoosh! He’s gone, stealin’ bases like they’re candy at the county fair.
I heard tell he stole 59 bases last year. Fifty-nine! That’s more bases than I got teeth left, and I had a mouthful back in the day. They say he got caught a few times too, but shoot, nobody’s perfect. He’s still learnin’, still growin’. He’s only 22 years old, just a young sprout.
They keep track of all sorts of numbers for these fellas. Batting averages and such. I don’t pay much mind to that stuff. All I care about is if he can run and if he can hit. And from what I hear, this Enrique can do both. He’s what they call a game changer with that speed of his. They say he runs over 30 feet per second. Lordy, that’s fast.
He’s playin’ in the minor leagues now, workin’ his way up. They say he might be ready for the big leagues in a year or so. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? A young fella like that, goin’ from high school to the big time in just a few years. He seems like a good kid though, keeps his head down and works hard. That’s what my pappy always told me, hard work and a good attitude will get you far.
I reckon folks in Baltimore are excited about him. They need a good team, somethin’ to cheer for. And this Enrique fella, with his speed and his hustle, he just might be the ticket. He’s an outfielder, they tell me, so he’s gotta catch those fly balls too. Sounds like a lot of work, but if he’s as fast as they say, maybe he can catch anything. Maybe he can even catch a greased pig at the county fair, ha!
So, keep an eye on this Enrique Bradfield Jr. He might just be somethin’ special. He might just be the next big thing. He’s got that speed, that’s for sure. And if he can keep hittin’ that ball and stealin’ those bases, well, there’s no tellin’ how far he’ll go. Maybe he’ll even win a championship for them Orioles. Wouldn’t that be somethin’? An old lady like me, watchin’ a young fella like that, makin’ history. It gives you somethin’ to root for, you know? It keeps things excitin’. He’s got a slender frame but don’t let that fool you, this boy is strong and fast.
They got all sorts of information on this boy on the internet now, even his career batting statistics. It’s a different world now, that’s for sure. Back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy technology. We just went to the games and watched with our own eyes. But I guess it’s good that folks can keep track of all these young fellas, see how they’re doin’. And from what I can tell, this Enrique Bradfield Jr. is doin’ just fine.
He was born on December 2nd, but they don’t say what year. Guess they figure we don’t need to know that, just that he’s young and fast. And that’s enough for me. I’ll be watchin’ him, that’s for sure. Rootin’ for him, too. Go get ‘em, Enrique! Show ‘em what you got!
