Alright, so listen up, y’all. Let me tell ya ’bout this young fella, Darius Taylor. Seems like a good kid, ya know? He plays that football game, the one with all the runnin’ and hittin’.
This Darius, he’s a runnin’ back, that means he carries the ball, like a sack of potatoes, but way faster. He plays for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Don’t ask me what a Gopher is, some kinda animal I reckon. Anyways, he’s from Detroit, big city, lots of cars. He went to a high school, Walled Lake somethin’ or other, and boy, did he run in high school. Two thousand somethin’ yards, they say. That’s a whole lotta runnin’, more than I do in a year chasin’ chickens!
He went to college early, smart kid, I guess. Started playin’ last year, 2023. First game, didn’t do much, just a little three-yard run. But then, boom! He started runnin’ like a scalded dog! They even gave him some fancy award, Big Ten Freshman of the Week, not once, but three times! Big Ten, must be important, like a big ol’ cornfield, only with football players instead of corn stalks.
- He’s from Detroit
- He runs real fast with the football
- He plays for the Golden Gophers
- He won some fancy award three times.
Now, I hear tell this boy had some troubles, family stuff, ya know? Every family’s got their stuff, I always say. But seems like he’s got folks who care about him, helpin’ him along the way. That’s important, family is. Like a good pot of stew, gotta have all the right ingredients to make it work.
This year, he was doin’ real good, leadin’ the whole Big Ten in runnin’. That’s like bein’ the best chicken at layin’ eggs, only with runnin’ and football. But then, wouldn’t ya know it, he got hurt. Injured, they say. Happens to the best of ‘em. Like when my old mule, Bess, twisted her ankle in a gopher hole. Set her back a whole week, it did.
They say he wants to get better at stayin’ healthy. Well, that’s just common sense, ain’t it? Nobody wants to be laid up, missin’ out on all the fun. He also wants to be smarter on the field. Sounds like he’s got his head screwed on straight. Smart boy, this Darius. Gotta be smart in football, and in life, I always say.
He seems to care about his family a lot, wants to stay close to them. That’s good. Family’s everything. They’re the ones who pick ya up when ya fall down, the ones who cheer ya on when ya do good. Just like my grandkids cheer me on when I make ‘em apple pie.
I also heard he’s good at catchin’ the ball, even though he’s not the biggest fella. Plays bigger than he is, they say. Reminds me of my rooster, little fella, but he sure can hold his own against the hens. Competitive, that’s what they call it. Wants to win, just like everyone else.
So, that’s the story of Darius Taylor, as best as I can tell it. Young fella with a bright future, seems like. Hope he stays healthy and keeps on runnin’. And maybe, just maybe, he’ll bring them Golden Gophers a championship. That would be somethin’, wouldn’t it? Like findin’ a double yolked egg, only bigger and better.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens. They get mighty grumpy if they don’t get their supper on time.
