You know, folks always talkin’ ’bout them football players. Big guys, runnin’ fast, catchin’ balls. My grandson, he watches it all the time. He’s always yellin’ at the TV. He says he wants to be a wide… wide somethin’. Wide receiver? Yeah, that’s it, wide receiver. He’s a skinny little thing, though. So, I got to wonderin’, how big do ya gotta be to be one of them wide receivers?
So, I went to my friend’s house. She has a computer, you know. I don’t know how to use that, so she helped me. We looked it up, these average wide receiver weight. It’s all numbers and such. Hard for an old lady like me to understand. But I’ll try to tell ya what I learned.
Seems like these wide receiver fellas, they ain’t all the same size. Some are bigger, some are smaller. But there’s like a… a middle ground, ya know? A size that most of ’em are. That’s what they call the average. They got some fancy word for it, but I forgot. So, they are not all the same, some are taller, some are shorter. This is interesting, right?
Anyways, we looked at a bunch of numbers, these wide receiver weight. From some years, 2010 all the way to 2021. A lot of years! Seems like most of these boys, they’re ’bout, well, taller than me, for sure. ‘Bout 5’10” to 6’3″, that’s what the computer said. My grandson, he’s ’bout 5’8″ now, but he’s still growin’. Hope he gets taller!
Now, the weight, that’s the important part, right? Gotta be strong to play that game. These average wide receiver weight is ’round 185 to 220 pounds. Sounds heavy to me! My grandson, he’s only ’bout 130 pounds soakin’ wet. Gotta eat more meat and potatoes, I tell ya!
- Most wide receiver are 5’10” to 6’3” tall
- Most wide receiver weight between 185-220 lbs.
- 6 feet is like 183 of them little centimeter things.
- NFL players are big. Average is 6’2” and 245 lbs.
We saw some other numbers too. Like, this one fella, he was 6 feet tall. That’s pretty tall, right? And 183 of them little centimeter things. Lots of numbers, all swirly in my head now. The computer said that’s the average wide receiver height. So 6 feet, not too short, not too tall.
There were some other things, about somethin’ called “FCS” and “NAIA.” I don’t know what those are. But they had numbers too. For those, the boys were a bit smaller, ’bout 5’10” and 165 pounds. Still bigger than my grandson! They gotta run fast too, somethin’ called a “40-yard dash.” 4.6 somethin’. I don’t know. Sounds fast to me. My grandson, he can run pretty fast when he’s late for dinner, I know that.
And lift weights! They gotta lift weights. Bench press and squats. Big numbers! 205 pounds for bench, 275 for squats. My grandson tried to lift my big iron skillet the other day, and he almost dropped it! He’s got a long way to go.
Then we saw somethin’ ’bout the big leagues, the NFL, they call it. Those boys are even bigger! 6’2″ and 245 pounds, that’s the average they said. That’s a big fella! They said it’s a good goal for kids who wanna play in the NFL. My grandson, he better start eatin’ his greens, that is all I can tell him!.
So, what did I learn from all this? Well, these wide receiver fellas, they’re pretty big. Not giants, but good-sized. And they gotta be strong and fast. My grandson, he’s got the fast part down, but he needs to work on the strong part. I think the average wide receiver weight for NFL this year is around 200 lbs, that is what my friend told me. I am not sure, I don’t remember those numbers. But 200 lbs, that is heavy!
Maybe I’ll make him an extra big dinner tonight. Some fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, the works. Gotta get some meat on them bones if he wants to be a wide receiver! And if he cannot be that tall, he needs to put on more weight. That is important, too.
This wide receiver weight and height thing, it is very confusing. But I think I understand a little bit more now. Now I know my grandson needs to eat more. This is the most important thing.
