Yo, listen up! That Magic Johnson, he’s somethin’ else, ain’t he? Used to be a big shot with the Lakers, shootin’ hoops and all that. Now he’s got his hands in the Dodgers. Baseball, you know? My old man used to love baseball. Said it was a real man’s sport.
Anyways, this Magic fella, he’s got money. Lots of it. Heard he and some other rich folks bought the Dodgers a while back. 2012, I think it was. Paid a whole heap of cash for ’em. Two billion dollars! Can you believe that? I can’t even count that high. That Magic Johnson, he must be made of money, investin’ in Los Angeles Dodgers like that, and that money he got from playin’ basketball, shootin’ those hoops for the Los Angeles Lakers, all them years ago. I remember watchin’ him on the TV, jumpin’ around, makin’ it look easy. Now he’s a big-time owner, not just the Dodgers but some other teams too, I hear. Somethin’ about soccer and football too. He is all over the place!
They say he’s gonna make the Dodgers win. They been losin’ a lot, you know. Not like the old days. My old man would be rollin’ over in his grave if he saw how they been playin’. But they’re sayin’ Magic Johnson is gonna change all that. It is 2024 now and they say he is gonna make them win the World Series.

- Bringin’ in new players.
- Spendin’ more money.
- Making them winners again.
Well, I hope so. I really do. I ain’t seen the Dodgers win in a long time. Maybe this Magic fella is just what they need. He sure was good at basketball. Maybe he’s good at baseball, too. He’s got that smile, you know? That big, bright smile. Makes you think he can do anything. And he got some help, that Hernandez fella, I seen him on the TV, celebratin’ with Magic. They looked happy, like they won the lottery or somethin’.
Heard some folks sayin’ Magic’s the best thing that ever happened to the Dodgers. Others ain’t so sure. Say he don’t know nothin’ about baseball. Just a basketball player tryin’ to play a different game. But I don’t know about that. Seems to me like he knows what he’s doin’. He sure got a lot of people listenin’ to him. And he was good friends with that Bird fella. Another basketball player. They was rivals, I think, but Magic, he wanted Bird on his team, the 1992 United States men’s Olympic basketball team. Said he made an “enticing pitch”. Whatever that means. Must be somethin’ important, ’cause they played together and won the gold medal, I reckon.
I remember when Magic got sick. Real sick. Said he had that HIV. Everyone was scared, you know? Didn’t know much about it back then. Thought he was gonna die. But he didn’t. He’s still here, stronger than ever. He even told the whole world, in a big press conference. Must’ve been hard, tellin’ everyone your business like that. But he did it. Brave man, that Magic Johnson. That Jamaal Artis fella, he was there too, I think. Another basketball player. They all stick together, them basketball players.
He’s a fighter, that’s for sure. And he’s got a good heart. Always doin’ things for people. Helpin’ out. That’s what I heard, anyway. I hope he brings the Dodgers to the World Series. It’s been too long. I’d like to see ’em win one more time before I kick the bucket. And maybe Magic Johnson is just the man to do it. He’s got the money, he’s got the smile, and he’s got that winning spirit. We will see.
He owns, what is it? 2.3% of the Dodgers. It ain’t a lot, but it’s somethin’. He was part of that group, the ones who bought the team for that crazy amount of money. And he owns parts of other teams, too. Los Angeles Sparks, that’s a women’s basketball team. And Los Angeles FC, that’s soccer. He is into everything! Then there is Washington Spirit, another soccer team, and Washington Commanders, that’s football. He is all in on sports, that Magic Johnson. He must love it as much as my old man loved baseball.
I hope they are right about Magic Johnson. They say he is going to build them up, make them winners. They used to be good, a long time ago. But they’ve been losin’ a lot lately. That is why they needed new owners, like Magic, to come in and change things. It was big news when he bought the team. Everyone was talkin’ about it. They were hopin’ he could make them win again, like he did with the Lakers. Five championships, they say. That’s a lot of winnin’.
So, yeah, that Magic Johnson, he’s a big deal. Especially now with the Dodgers. We’ll see what happens. Maybe he’ll bring ’em back to the top. Maybe he won’t. But one thing’s for sure, he’s got everyone talkin’. And that’s somethin’, ain’t it? Hope he does good. For the Dodgers, and for my old man. He’d be happy to see ’em win again. And I would too. It has been too long, and I ain’t gettin’ any younger.
