Okay, so I’ve been messing around with creating depth charts, specifically for, you know, football teams. I’m calling it “army depth chart,” sounds kinda cool, right? It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I think I’ve finally got something share-worthy.
The Initial Idea
First, I had to figure out what I even wanted. I needed a way to organize players by position, and then rank them within that position. Just like, you know, first string, second string, third string… that kind of thing. Seems simple at first, but the devil is in the details.
The Process, Step-by-Step
I Started by Just getting all the data in one place. I opened up a simple spreadsheet. You can literally use any spreadsheet program, I grabbed one.
Then, I created columns for the player’s name, position, and then their “rank” within that position. So, like, “John Doe,” “Quarterback,” “1.” Simple enough.
- Column 1: Player Name
- Column 2: Position
- Column 3: Rank
Next I added some players. I just filled in a bunch of names and positions. The important thing here is to be consistent with the position names. Don’t put “QB” for one guy and “Quarterback” for another. It’ll mess things up later.
After that, I Started sorting. I sorted first by position, and then by rank. This is where the magic happens! The spreadsheet program automatically grouped all the quarterbacks together, and then put them in order from 1 to whatever.
Making it Look Decent
Spreadsheet is a great tool, but it is not the best option if you wanna make things neat and organized visually. I started with looking for some tools that can help me with it, but I failed. The result are not that satisfied.
It works! It’s not pretty, but it’s functional. I can see exactly who’s where on the depth chart. I can easily add new players, change positions, adjust rankings, whatever. This is perfect for keeping track of my fantasy team, or even just understanding the real-world NFL teams better. It is not hard to build, all you need is some patient, and you might need to get familiar with spreadsheet.
