Okay, so I’ve been wanting to show off my Oregon State pride, and what better way than with some custom shoes? I’ve seen people do this online, and I thought, “I can totally do that!” So, I decided to give it a try, and boy, was it a journey. Let me tell you all about it.
Finding the Right Shoes
First things first, I needed some shoes. I didn’t want to mess up a good pair, so I headed to a local store and looked for some plain white canvas sneakers. Plain, Simple get it * that wouldn’t break the bank if I completely ruined them.
Gathering My Supplies
Next up, supplies! I already had some acrylic paints from other crafting projects.
So here lists what I use for this project:
- Orange acrylic paint
- Black acrylic paint
- Paintbrushes (a few different sizes for details)
- Painter’s tape (this is KEY for clean lines)
- A pencil (for sketching my design)
- A sealant spray (to protect the paint)
Prepping the Shoes
Before I could start painting, I needed to prep the shoes. I stuffed them with some old newspapers to help them keep their shape. Then, I used the painter’s tape to mask off the areas I didn’t want to paint, like the soles and any rubber parts. This part took a while because I wanted to make sure the lines were super straight.
Painting the Base
I started by painting the base color. I wanted a bold orange, so I applied a couple of coats, letting each coat dry completely before adding the next. Patience is a virtue, my friends, especially when it comes to * them totally dry.
Adding the Details
This is where things got a little tricky. I wanted to add the OSU logo and maybe some other fun details. I lightly sketched my design onto the shoes with a pencil. Then, using my smaller brushes, I carefully painted the black details. It was slow going, and I definitely had to redo a few lines, but hey, that’s part of the process!
Sealing the Deal
Once I was happy with the design and everything was completely dry, I took the shoes outside and sprayed them with a sealant. This helps protect the paint from scuffs and makes the shoes a bit more water-resistant. I did a couple of coats of sealant, just to be safe.
The Final Result!
And there you have it! My very own, custom-made Oregon State University shoes! They’re not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of them. It was a fun project, and now I can show off my Beaver pride wherever I go.I wear them and walk around. It is cool!
