Okay, so, I’ve been into crossword puzzles lately, right? It’s like this cool way to kill time and maybe, just maybe, feel a bit smarter. So, today, I was working on this one puzzle, and the clue was “transcription pros.”
At first, I was stumped. I mean, who are these “transcription pros”? What are they called? I started by looking at the number of letters – 6. Hmm, okay, six letters. I tried fitting in some random words that came to mind, but nothing worked. So I decided to tackle the easier clues first, the “fill-in-the-blanks.” Those are usually more straightforward, you know, common knowledge stuff.
Going through the puzzle, I filled in what I could. Then, I circled back to “transcription pros.” By now, I had a few letters filled in from the intersecting words. I think I had gotten “S” as the first letter. I felt like I was really making progress!
But I still wasn’t sure. So, I did what any reasonable person would do – I checked online. I mean, is it cheating? Some people I’ve spoken to think it isn’t. It’s just a game. Anyway, I found a few websites that offer crossword solutions.
And guess what I discovered? Turns out there are a bunch of possible answers! One site listed like 30! But most of them pointed to one specific answer, especially for the puzzle I was doing, which was from, I think, October 3rd or 4th. I checked both dates just to be sure.
The answer was “STENOS”! Makes sense, right? Short for “stenographers.” Those are the people who type really fast, like in courtrooms or for live captioning. I entered the answer into the puzzle, and bam! It fit perfectly.
It’s so satisfying solving a tough clue. But I was also thinking about what those websites said. They mentioned that this particular crossword puzzle was created by some freelancers and edited by this guy named Will Shortz since the 90s. Apparently, the puzzles get harder throughout the week, with Monday being the easiest and Saturday the hardest. I might actually try that this week.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with today’s crossword. “STENOS.” Who knew? I feel like I learned something new today.
