Okay, so, I’ve been diving into this whole “Blooper Braves” thing lately. Let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. First off, I started by just trying to figure out what the heck a “Blooper” even was. Turns out, Blooper is the mascot for the Atlanta Braves. Who knew? Not me, until now.
So, I dug a little deeper. Apparently, when they first introduced this Blooper guy back in 2018, people were not happy. They were saying all sorts of mean things, like he was ugly and a total knockoff of the Philly Phanatic. Ouch. But, guess what? Five years later, Blooper is still around. He has been described to be like Shrek but with ramen coming out of all his pores, that’s wired! and he wears a 5XL T-shirt. The guy behind the mask is Jacob Mosella. It seems he do a good job.
I watched a few videos of him at the games, goofing around with the fans at Truist Park. He’s this big, fuzzy, goofball, with these weird ears that he can, like, extend? It’s pretty strange, but also kind of endearing. He is all like HEY MAN, you cant get away with that! And then BLAMO! That’s funny.
Then I stumbled upon this book, “Rob Neyer’s Big Book of Baseball Blunders.” It’s all about the dumbest moves and decisions in baseball history, made by managers, general managers, and even the owners. I started to think, maybe Blooper’s creation was one of those blunders.
But then I found some other stuff. Like, there are actually Blooper activities for kids. I guess he’s not just there to be a punching bag for disgruntled fans. He actually does some good, making appearances and trying to be a positive influence. They said Blooper is the just the guy to help out. And he took over from the old mascot, Homer of the Brave, when that guy retired.
Then I read about some real, actual MLB bloopers – you know, the kind where players mess up on the field. Like, fielding fiascos and base-running blunders, MLB has witnessed some hilarious bloopers. There’s a whole list of the top 5 all-time MLB mishaps. That’s crazy! After seeing all that, I realized Blooper, the mascot, isn’t really a blunder at all. He’s just a big, fuzzy, funny dude trying to bring some joy to the game. And you know what? I think he’s succeeding.
So yeah, that’s my Blooper journey. I went from knowing nothing to having a whole new appreciation for this weird, lovable mascot. It’s funny how things turn out sometimes.
