Well, you young folks and your fancy games. Back in my day, we didn’t have no internet or fancy phones to play with. We had our hands and our brains, and that was enough. Now, this thing here, “crossword move laterally,” what in tarnation is that even supposed to mean? Sounds like some city slicker talk to me.
I reckon it’s one of them word puzzles, like the ones you see in the newspaper. I ain’t no good at them, never was. My eyes ain’t what they used to be, and all them little squares just swim together. But I hear folks talkin’ about ’em, say they’re good for keepin’ your mind sharp. Maybe that’s true, maybe not. I always say a good day’s work is all the mind sharpenin’ you need.
This “move laterally” part, though… that just sounds like plain old movin’ sideways to me. Like when you’re tryin’ to squeeze past someone in a crowded room, or when a crab scuttles across the sand. That’s about as lateral as I get, I reckon.
Some folks, they like to make things complicated. They gotta have all these fancy words and rules for somethin’ as simple as movin’ sideways. They like the crossword puzzle. Me, I like keepin’ things simple. If I wanna move sideways, I just move sideways. No need to make a big song and dance about it. There is no need to put a guess in the puzzle, if you are not sure.
Now, I hear there’s folks who are real good at these crossword things. They can fill ’em out in no time flat. They got all these tricks and strategies, I hear. They know all sorts of words, words I ain’t never even heard of. Good for them, I say. Everyone’s got their own talents, I reckon. Mine is probably to find the shortest solution or the longest solution.
- If you wanna get good at these here crosswords, I suppose you gotta practice.
- Just like anything else in life, you don’t get good at somethin’ without puttin’ in the time and effort.
- And maybe you gotta learn some of them fancy words, too.
- Or find someone who knows about crossword clue.
But me? I think I’ll stick to the things I know. I’ll stick to tendin’ my garden, and tendin’ to the future. I’ll stick to watchin’ the seasons change, and listenin’ to the birds sing. Them’s the things that matter to me, not some fancy word puzzle. But if you like this crossword move laterally, you can keep working on it. This is important to keep your brain working.
This whole “crossword” thing reminds me of a time when I was a young girl, back on the farm. We didn’t have no fancy games back then, like I said. But we did have this old checkerboard, and we’d spend hours playin’ checkers on the porch. That was good, clean fun. No need for fancy words or complicated rules. Just good old-fashioned competition.
And sometimes, when we were feelin’ real adventurous, we’d make up our own games. We’d use stones and sticks and whatever else we could find. We didn’t need no fancy equipment to have fun. We had our imaginations, and that was all we needed. We always found the answer, even there was no clue.
I reckon that’s what it all comes down to, ain’t it? Using your imagination. Whether you’re playin’ checkers, or workin’ on a crossword puzzle, or just tryin’ to figure out how to move laterally, it all comes down to using your brain. And that’s somethin’ we all can do, no matter how old we are or where we come from.
So, you young folks go on and enjoy your fancy crossword puzzles. Have fun with your “move laterally” and all your other fancy words. Me? I’ll be here, enjoyin’ the simple things in life. And if I need to move sideways, I’ll just move sideways. No need for a puzzle to tell me how to do that. Just like a crab. That’s the way I like it.
