Well, lemme tell ya, that Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants game, it was somethin’ else. All them fellas runnin’ around, hittin’ that ball. My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I seen enough to know it was a good game. Lots of player stats to talk about, that’s for sure.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout the Chicago Cubs. They said them Cubs ain’t won three in a row since way back in April. Seems like they need a good kick in the pants to get goin’. But each time they win, the Chicago Cubs hold out hope for a long winning streak. They was sayin’ a fella named Morel, and another one, Seiya Suzuki, they hit them home runs in the seventh inning. Six runs they got! That’s a whole lotta runnin’! It was amazing, made me feel like i was young again.

And them San Francisco Giants, they was puttin’ up a good fight too. These Giants boys won’t give up without a fight! I heard tell of a fella named Thairo Estrada. He hit a three-run homer in the ninth, they said. That’s a late one, but it got the job done. They won 7-6, that’s what I heard. Hot day it was, too. Steamy, they said. Like a bad day in July. They got fellas named Heliot Ramos, and some others too. I can’t keep track of all them names.
One time, I think it was back in September, 2021. The Giants beat them Cubs 6-1, in front of a big crowd. The Giants played for 3 hours. That’s a long time to be out in the sun, ain’t it? I heard that there were almost 30,000 people at that game. Musta been a sight to see. Can you imagine so many people in one place just to watch a baseball game? Lord, times have changed.
Now, these young folks, they talk about these player stats all the time. Who’s got the most home runs for the Cubs ever. Who’s got the most triples. And OBP, whatever that is. They like to know these things, I guess. Back in my day, we just watched the game and enjoyed it. Didn’t need all them numbers.
I heard some folks say that this fella, Patrick Wisdom, he hit another home run. It seems he’s been doin’ that a lot lately. Good for him, I say. Hitting them home runs, that’s the way to win the game, ain’t it? And what is Statcast? It seems it is a way to record everything about these players, even every pitch. I never heard of such a thing in my day. I also heard about a player named Swanson, and some people were talking about Steele County. I don’t know much about that, but it sounds important.
These Chicago Cubs vs San Francisco Giants games, they always get folks talkin’. Lots of excitement, lots of back and forth. You never know who’s gonna win until the very end. That’s what makes it fun, I guess. Even for an old lady like me, it’s fun to watch.
I remember when baseball was simpler. Just a bunch of fellas playin’ a game. Now it’s all these numbers and stats. But I guess that’s the way things are now. Progress, they call it. As long as them fellas are havin’ fun and playin’ hard, that’s all that matters, right?
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say about that game. Them player stats, they can be interestin’, I suppose. But for me, it’s just about watchin’ the game and enjoyin’ the show. Them Cubs and Giants, they sure know how to put on a good one. Makes an old lady like me feel young again, just watchin’ ’em run around.
And you know what? It don’t matter if it’s the Cubs or the Giants, as long as they’re playin’ their hearts out, that’s what counts. That’s what makes a good game, good player stats or not. Just good old-fashioned baseball. That’s what I like to see.
So, next time you watch a game, don’t get too caught up in all them numbers. Just enjoy the game, like we used to in the old days. Cheer for your team, and have a good time. That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Baseball, sunshine, and good company. Can’t ask for much more than that.
These games always stir up a lot of memories. It’s more than just a game. It’s about the people, the excitement. And the hope that maybe, just maybe, your team will pull through in the end. That’s what keeps us coming back, game after game. It is a good game after all. These young boys are amazing. I love them all!
