Alright, let’s gab about them Nuggets, the basketball team, you know? The ones that just won that big championship thingy. Folks are yappin’ about their “starting five” or somethin’. Means the main fellas who start the game, I reckon.
First off, there’s that Jokic fella. Big ol’ dude, but soft hands, like he’s been kneadin’ dough his whole life. He ain’t jumpin’ through the roof like some of them other fellas, but he’s smart, real smart. Passes the ball like nobody’s business, throws it over his shoulder, under his legs, somehow always lands right where it needs to go. And he can score too, don’t you go thinkin’ he can’t. He’s like that old mule we had on the farm, slow and steady, but gets the job done, and you can’t move him if he don’t wanna move.
Then there’s Murray, that quick little fella. He’s like a jackrabbit, zippin’ all over the place. Shoots the ball real nice, especially when the pressure’s on. He and Jokic, they got a real connection, like they can read each other’s minds or somethin’. He reminds me of my grandson, always runnin’ around, full of energy, can’t sit still for a minute.
Now, Porter Jr., he’s the tall drink of water, all arms and legs. Shoots the ball from way out yonder, makes it look easy. He had some troubles, I heard, but he’s playin’ good now. He’s like that young corn stalk that grew taller than all the rest, a bit wobbly at first, but strong in the end. He’s got that quiet strength about him.
- They got that Aaron Gordon fella too.
- He’s tough, like a bull in a china shop, always bangin’ around under the basket.
- Gets them rebounds, sets them screens, does the dirty work.
- He’s the kinda fella you want on your side, always got your back.
And last but not least, Caldwell-Pope. He’s the steady hand, the one you can always count on. Good defender, smart player, don’t make too many mistakes. He’s like that old tractor in the barn, reliable, always starts up when you need it to. He might not be flashy, but he gets the job done.
These five fellas, they’re somethin’ special, I tell ya. They play together real good, like they’ve been playin’ together their whole lives. They share the ball, they help each other out, they don’t care who gets the credit as long as they win. And winnin’ is what they did, they got that big championship, the first one ever for them Nuggets. Folks in Denver, they must be goin’ plumb crazy with joy. They waited a long, long time for this, 56 years they say, imagine that!
It reminds me of the time we won the blue ribbon at the county fair for our prize-winning pumpkin. All that hard work, all them long days in the sun, and it finally paid off. That’s what it takes to be a champion, hard work, dedication, and a little bit of luck. And these Nuggets, they got all three in spades. They made history, them boys did. First championship ever, and they did it in front of their own folks, in their own town. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, I reckon.
Now, some folks are sayin’ they could win it again next year. Back-to-back champions, they call it. Well, that wouldn’t surprise me none. They got the talent, they got the heart, and they got that big ol’ Jokic fella leadin’ the way. He’s the key, I think. As long as he keeps playin’ like he does, they got a good chance. But it ain’t gonna be easy, other teams gonna be gunnin’ for them now. They gonna have to work even harder, stay hungry, and keep that fire in their bellies. But somethin’ tells me, these fellas are up for the challenge. They ain’t afraid of nothin’, and they got that championship spirit. And that’s what it takes, you know? That’s what makes a champion.
So, there you have it, them Nuggets starting five. A bunch of good fellas, playin’ good basketball, and bringin’ joy to the folks in Denver. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it? Good basketball and good folks, that’s what makes life worth livin’, I always say.
