Well now, let me tell ya a thing or two about this big fella named Derrick Henry. Now, he’s a mighty fine player, they say. Runs like the wind and hits harder than a mule kickin’ a fence. But, even the toughest of ’em ain’t immune to gettin’ hurt, and that’s what happened to Henry in the 2023 season.
It was Week 13, I reckon. The Titans were playin’ the Colts, and there he was, just doin’ his thing out there, poundin’ the ball like he always does. But then, all of a sudden, he went down. Got himself a head injury, folks. Now, I don’t know what happened exactly, but I heard it was a bad knock to the head. Don’t worry though, they said it wasn’t a concussion. They checked him out, made sure he wasn’t all foggy in the head, and lucky for him, he didn’t have no concussion. So, he was back out on the field the very next week, runnin’ and playin’ like nothing happened.
But, that ain’t the only time Derrick had trouble with his body. Oh no.
Back in 2021, in a game against the Colts again, this time in Week 8, he broke his foot. A real nasty break too. They said he broke his fifth metatarsal, whatever that is. Sounds real fancy, don’t it? But it was a big deal, no doubt. He had to have surgery to fix it up, and he was out for a while. That was a real blow for the Titans, cause Henry is the backbone of that team, the one they count on to get them yards and points. Without him, things just didn’t feel right for the team.
So, it ain’t like Derrick’s life is all smooth sailing. Injuries come, injuries go, and they can change a man’s future. Just like it did for Henry. Now, let me tell ya about that future of his. It looks like Derrick’s had enough of the Titans, with all the changes goin’ on and the team not doin’ so hot. He wanted a shot at a Super Bowl, and Tennessee just wasn’t gonna give him that. So, what did he do? He packed up and joined the Baltimore Ravens, who had a mighty fine season in 2023, finishin’ with a 13-4 record. That’s the kind of team a big ol’ player like Henry needs to be around if he wants to chase that shiny trophy.
In his big ol’ press conference when he got to Baltimore, Henry said, “This is where I knew I wanted to be.” Now, I don’t know about y’all, but that sure sounds like a man who’s ready to get back to work and do what he does best: run over folks and help his team win.
Injuries, though, they ain’t never easy on a player.
Even the toughest of ‘em gotta take a break when things go wrong. Like I said before, Derrick Henry got a real bad foot injury in 2021, and that took him out for most of the season. And then, even though his head injury wasn’t as bad as it coulda been in 2023, injuries still make a fella think. It’s a part of the game, but you can’t ignore it. A lot of folks think that once a man gets hurt, that’s the end of him, but Henry’s proof that if you take care of yourself and push through, you can come back stronger than before.
So now, we’ll just have to see what the future holds for Henry in Baltimore. He’s a strong one, that’s for sure, and I reckon he’s got a lot left to give to the game. He’s gonna run wild and give the Ravens a real chance at that Super Bowl. Mark my words, he ain’t done yet. Not by a long shot.
