Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get back into shape, and I heard about this place, Destiny MMA, in Hawaii. I figured, why not give it a shot? I mean, it’s Hawaii, right? Everything’s gotta be a little more…zen there.

Getting Started
First thing I did was look them up. Found their schedule, saw they had classes for all levels, which was good because, let’s be honest, I’m pretty much level zero. I called them. The staff I spoke with on the phone was super friendly and helped me.
My First Class
Man, was I nervous walking in. But everyone was so welcoming! The instructor, I think his name was Chris or something, was this big, friendly Hawaiian guy. Super chill, but you could tell he knew his stuff. I joined a beginner’s class, mostly just learning basic moves, stances, that kind of thing.
We started with some warm-ups, stretches, you know, the usual. Then we got into some basic striking techniques. Punches, kicks, the whole deal. I was sweating like crazy, but it felt good. Really good. I even partnered up with another student to practice blocking techniques.
The Workout
- Warm-up: Lots of stretching, jumping jacks…the usual stuff to get the blood flowing.
- Striking: Learned some basic punches (jab, cross) and kicks (front kick, roundhouse kick). It was tougher than it looked!
- Technique: The instructor showed us how to stand, how to move, how to keep our balance. Lots of little details I never would have thought of.
- Practice: We got to practice the moves on pads and with partners. This was the fun part, even though I was completely exhausted.
Feeling the Burn (and the Aloha)
By the end of the class, I was wiped. Muscles I didn’t even know I had were aching. But honestly, I felt amazing. There’s something about pushing yourself like that, especially in such a positive environment. Everyone was encouraging each other, and there was this real sense of camaraderie. I finished up my first class. I booked my next class before I left.
I’m definitely going back. It’s more than just a workout; it’s like…a whole experience. I recommend that anyone looking to start MMA training should give it a try. It’s challenging, yeah, but also super rewarding. Plus, you know, it’s Hawaii. Can’t beat that.
