Okay, so I’ve been messing around with fantasy football for a while now, and I gotta say, the quarterback position is always a rollercoaster. You got your top dogs, but finding those sleeper picks, those guys who might just pop off, that’s where the real fun is. So, I decided to take a look at C.J. Beathard, you know, the backup in Jacksonville.
First thing I did was just pull up his stats from last year. Nothing crazy, obviously, since he’s behind Trevor Lawrence. But, hey, you gotta start somewhere, right? I wanted to see his completion percentage, any rushing yards, you know, the basic stuff.
Digging into the Past
Then, I went back a bit further. I checked out his time in San Francisco. He had a few starts there, so I figured that would give me a better idea of what he could do if he ever got the chance. I looked at games where he actually played a decent amount, trying to ignore the ones where he just came in for a few snaps.
- Looked at his passing yards per game.
- Checked out his touchdown to interception ratio.
- Noticed how often he got sacked. (O-line matters, folks!)
- Saw how many rushing attempts.
The “What If” Scenario
Now, this is all hypothetical, of course. Beathard’s fantasy value is pretty much zero unless Lawrence gets hurt. So, I started thinking, “Okay, if that happened, what would Beathard’s situation look like?”
I looked at the Jaguars’ schedule. Who are they playing? Are there any teams with weak defenses that he might be able to exploit? I also considered the Jaguars’ offense in general. Do they have good receivers? Is their running game strong? All of that impacts a quarterback’s fantasy potential.
My Gut Feeling
After all this digging, I’m still not saying Beathard is gonna be a fantasy superstar. But, I did get a better sense of his potential. It is my way to record my *’s a guy I might keep an eye on if something happens to Lawrence. In super deep leagues, or maybe as a cheap daily fantasy option in the right matchup, he could be a sneaky play. It’s a long shot, but hey, that’s part of the fun of fantasy, right?
I wrote all of this down in my notebook, by the way, I use it for all my fantasy research. Keeps me organized!
