Alright, so I’ve been a huge “Game of Thrones” fan since, well, forever. And with all the hype around the final season, I got this crazy idea to start a fantasy league with my buddies. You know, like fantasy football, but with dragons and backstabbing.
First, I started looking around online to see if something like this even existed. I mean, GoT has everything – a huge cast of characters, tons of plot twists, and enough drama to fill a dozen seasons of a regular show. It’s practically begging to be turned into a fantasy league, right? Turns out, I wasn’t the only one thinking that. I found a couple of sites that were already doing something similar, like this one called “Fantasizr.” They let you pick from a bunch of characters and even “special teams,” which are basically groups like the Night’s Watch or the Dothraki. Cool, right?
Then I started digging into how the scoring would work. This was the tricky part. I wanted it to be more than just “character X survives, you get points.” So, I came up with a whole system. You got points for characters surviving, sure, but also for things like killing other characters, gaining titles, even having sex (it’s “Game of Thrones,” after all!). And for season 8, I threw in some bonus categories, like predicting who would end up on the Iron Throne or who would be revealed as Azor Ahai. It got pretty complicated, but that’s what made it fun.
Next, I had to get my friends on board. Luckily, most of them are as obsessed with the show as I am, so it wasn’t a hard sell. We decided to do a draft, just like in fantasy football. Everyone picked their team of characters, trying to balance the heavy hitters like Jon Snow and Daenerys with some underdogs who might surprise everyone. The trash talk started immediately, of course. Everyone was convinced they had the winning team.
- Set up the league online using a spreadsheet to track everything. Old school, I know, but it worked!
- Watched each episode together, keeping score in real-time. The tension was insane!
- Argued constantly about the rules. There were a few disputed calls, let me tell you.
- Crowned a champion at the end of the season. Bragging rights were the ultimate prize, obviously.
It ended up being one of the most fun things we did during the final season. It made watching the show even more exciting, and it gave us something to argue about besides who should have ended up on the throne. If you’re a GoT fan and you’re looking for a way to spice up your viewing experience, I highly recommend starting your own fantasy league. Just be prepared for some serious competition and maybe a few ruined friendships along the way. It’s all part of the fun!
