Alright, let’s talk about this Craig Stammen Classic thing, you know? I ain’t no expert, but I’ll tell ya what I know.
So, this Craig Stammen fella, seems like he’s a big deal. They named this whole baseball thingy after him. A “classic,” they call it. Sounds fancy, huh? I guess he’s from around here, Versailles, or somethin’. He plays that baseball, the big leagues, they say. Good for him, I reckon.
Now, this Classic, it’s for the young’uns. Little fellas and gals, runnin’ around, hittin’ balls, and catchin’ ’em. They got all sorts of ages, you see. Starts with them 8-year-olds, little tykes barely bigger than my chickens. Then they got the 9-year-olds, 10, 11, all the way up to 14. That’s a whole lotta kids, ain’t it? Keeps ’em busy, outta trouble, I suppose.
They got teams, lots of ’em. For the little ones, 8 to 12 years old, they got like, eight teams max. For the older ones, 13 and 14, just six teams. Guess it’s harder to find enough of them bigger kids. Makes sense, I guess.

They just added that 13U group, see? Must be gettin’ popular, this Classic thing. Good for the town, bringin’ folks in, sellin’ snacks and such.
You gotta get tickets, though. Can’t just walk in, I don’t think. They sell ’em, and they stop sellin’ ’em sometime in May. Gotta be quick, I reckon, if you wanna watch them kids play. They had one last year, 2023, and now they’re doin’ it again in 2024. Must be a yearly thing, like plantin’ corn.
They play this baseball in a couple of places. North Star and Versailles, they say. Don’t know where North Star is exactly, but Versailles, that’s right here, close to home. Easy enough to get to, if you got a car, or a neighbor willin’ to drive ya. I seen ’em playin’ last year, all them kids runnin’ around. Looked like fun, even though I don’t understand all them rules. Hit the ball, run the bases, catch the ball. That’s about all I know.
They even got rules, mind you. Not just any old way of playin’. They got a whole book of ’em, I bet. They had rules last year, and I bet they got ’em again this year. Keeps things fair, I guess. Don’t want no cheatin’, no sirree. Gotta teach them young’uns right, play fair and square.
And there’s champions, too! They win somethin’, I guess. A trophy, maybe? Or just bragging rights? Don’t rightly know, but them kids sure look happy when they win. Reminds me of winnin’ the pie contest at the county fair. Good feelin’, that is.
This Craig Stammen Classic, it’s a big to-do around here. Brings folks together, gives the kids somethin’ to do, and puts Versailles on the map, so to speak. So, if you’re around, and you like baseball, or just like watchin’ kids have fun, go check it out. Just remember to get them tickets!
They got folks that help out too, a committee, sponsors, all that stuff. Takes a lot of people to make somethin’ like this happen, you know? It ain’t just showin’ up and playin’ ball. There’s organizin’ and plannin’ and all sorts of things. Good on ’em for doin’ it, though. Gives the kids somethin’ to look forward to.
So that’s the gist of it, as best as I can tell ya. Craig Stammen Classic. Baseball. Kids. Tickets. Fun. Versailles. You got it?
