Okay, here’s my take on the “justin thomas says scottie scheffler’s high-numbered golf balls are weird” topic, written in the style of a personal blog post:
So, I was messing around on the internet, looking for, anything related to golf. And I stumbled upon this little thing about Justin Thomas ribbing Scottie Scheffler about his golf balls. Apparently, Scheffler uses high-numbered balls, like 5s, 6s, 7s, and 8s, and JT thinks it’s super weird. And at the first, I also feel it’s a little strange.I’ve never seen another golf player do it like that.
Now, I’m no pro, not even close. I’m just a guy,you know, hits the ball. So, I’ve always just grabbed whatever balls were in the bag, usually 1s, 2s, 3s, maybe a 4 if I’m feeling wild. I used to think that the higher the number, the better the ball. But it turns out that is total wrong.
I decided to check it myself. I went down a rabbit hole, reading forums, watching videos, everything. Some people swear by low numbers, saying they feel softer. Others say high numbers are better for distance. It’s all over the place!
My Little Experiment
So, I grabbed a sleeve of 1s and a sleeve of 8s , the same brand and model, just to keep things consistent.I went to my practice area.
- First, I hit a bunch of drives with the 1s. Felt pretty normal, you know, what I’m used to.
- Then, I switched to the 8s. Honestly, I couldn’t tell much of a difference. Maybe, maybe, they felt a tiny bit harder, but it could totally be in my head.
- I did the same thing with my irons and wedges. Same result. No major difference.
I kept going back and forth, trying to find something, anything, that would make me say, “Aha! The 8s are clearly superior!” But, nope. Nothing.
My conclusion? It’s probably all mental. I’ve found it’s true. If you think a certain number is going to help you play better, it might. Placebo effect, right? Scheffler probably just likes high numbers. Maybe it’s a superstition thing, or maybe he just likes the way they look. Who knows?
So, yeah, JT can tease all he wants, but I’m not convinced it makes a lick of difference. I’m sticking with my random assortment of numbers. Unless someone can show me some real proof, I’m calling this one busted.
