Okay, so, I wanted to share this little journey I had with a guy named Grant McCasland. Now, I’m not a sports fanatic or anything, but this dude’s story got me hooked.
It all started when I stumbled upon some news about Texas Tech University’s basketball team. They just hired this new head coach, Grant McCasland. At first, I was like, “Grant who?” But then I dug a little deeper.
First step, I did what everyone does – I hit up the internet. Typed in “Grant McCasland” and started reading. Turns out, this guy has been around the block in the college basketball world. He was coaching at North Texas before this, from 2017 to 2023. Nothing too fancy. But that’s not all.
- Next, I found out that McCasland actually has a history with Texas Tech. I mean, he was their Director of Operations way back in 1999. That’s like, ages ago! It’s kind of cool, right? Coming back to where you started.
- Then, I read that this whole process happened pretty fast. Texas Tech offered him a six-year deal, and bam, he’s the new head coach. They must have really wanted him.
- After that, I came across this little tidbit about McCasland’s early days. Apparently, he was a walk-on player at Baylor. A 5-foot-9 walk-on, to be precise. And he played in 47 games over four seasons. It seemed so unbelievable. It’s such a big gap.
So, I started thinking, this guy’s journey is kind of inspiring. He started as a regular player, then became the Director of Operations at Texas Tech, went on to coach at North Texas, and now he’s back at Texas Tech as the head coach. It’s like a full circle.
What I got
