Well, you know, if you’re askin’ whether Missouri ever won a national championship, let me tell ya, they sure have! But, it’s a bit of a story. See, the Missouri Tigers, that’s the team we’re talkin’ about, they won two NCAA team national championships. The first one was way back in 1960, and the second one was in 2007. Now, you might be thinkin’ they hang them up proudly in their halls, but nope, they don’t claim ’em. Strange, right? But that’s how it is, I guess.
So, let me tell you a little more about them 2007 champions. The Tigers didn’t win the Big 12 Conference that year, but they sure showed up strong. They beat the Arkansas Razorbacks with a mighty score of 38-7 on January 1st. Now, that’s somethin’ to be proud of, if you ask me!
But, and here’s where it gets a little funny, Missouri football never had a Heisman Trophy winner. That’s the big prize for college football players. Though, in 2023, they did have a guy named Cody Schrader, a running back, who finished eighth in the Heisman voting. But in the end, LSU’s Jayden Daniels took the trophy home. Still, it’s somethin’ to be proud of to have someone so high up in the ranks, right?
Now, you might be thinkin’, “What about basketball? Did they ever win in that?” Well, here’s the thing. Missouri hasn’t had a team reach the men’s Final Four yet. But don’t go thinkin’ the whole state’s out of luck when it comes to basketball. The Missouri Valley Conference has had some real strong teams, like Loyola of Chicago, Wichita State, and even Louisville, to name a few, who all made it to the Final Four when they were part of the conference.
But back to the Tigers. They’ve had some individual stars too, not just the team titles. Over the years, they’ve had 8 individual national champions, 81 All-Americans, and 10 conference titles. That’s no small feat. And let’s not forget, they’ve grabbed two NCAA Championship team trophies, like I said earlier. That’s somethin’ to be proud of for sure!
Now, here’s somethin’ that might surprise ya – Missouri only joined the SEC (that’s the Southeastern Conference for ya) in 2012. Before that, they were part of other conferences, like the Big 12, the Big 8, and a few others. They’ve been around for a long time, playin’ tough football, and they’re still goin’ strong.
Now, if you’re lookin’ at their record, Missouri has had 671 wins, 558 losses, and 50 ties. They’ve played in 36 bowl games, but they haven’t always come out on top. Their bowl record stands at 16-20. Not the best, but hey, they keep tryin’, and that’s what matters. They’ve also had a few coaches along the way, like Gwinn Henry, who coached from 1923 to 1931. You gotta respect that kind of history!
So, to sum it up, yes, Missouri has won national championships, but they don’t always brag about it. They’ve got some individual champions, and they’ve played tough in the big games. They might not have a Heisman winner or a Final Four appearance, but they’ve still earned their place in college sports history. If you ask me, that’s pretty darn good!
