Well, now, lemme tell ya somethin’ ’bout this here baseball game. It’s a might confusin’ at first, but once ya get the hang of it, it ain’t so bad. So, how many innings in college baseball, you ask? Well, just like them big league fellas, they play nine innings, mostly.
Nine innings. That’s the main number to keep in your noggin. Each one of them innings is split in two, like cuttin’ a pie in half. Each half is a chance for a team to hit that ball.
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I’ve seen a few games in my day. My grandson, bless his heart, he plays. He’s a good boy, that one. Always loved baseball. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, them innings.
So, in each of them halves, one team is up at bat, tryin’ to hit that ball and run around them bases. And the other team, they’re out there in the field, tryin’ to catch the ball and stop ’em. They gotta get three outs in each half of an inning. If a team is at bat and they don’t get three outs, they just keep on hitting until those outs are made. Then they switch places, and the other team comes up to bat. Three outs, that’s the magic number. Keeps things movin’ along, ya see.
Nine innings in college baseball, that’s what they usually play. Just like in the big leagues, nine innings. You’d think they’d get tired, runnin’ around like that all day. But these young folks, they got energy to spare.
- Nine innings, that’s the usual.
- Each inning’s got two parts.
- Three outs and you switch.
Sometimes, though, things get a little different. Like if the game is tied up after them nine innings. Then, they gotta play some more, some extra innings, just like overtime. That’s called extra innings, which makes sense. They just keep playin’ until one team finally gets more runs than the other. Then it is over.
And there’s this other thing, somethin’ called a “mercy rule.” Don’t rightly know why they call it that. But if one team is way ahead, like by ten or more runs after seven innings, they just call it quits. Guess it’s to save time, or maybe to spare the losing team the embarrassment. I do not know for sure.
Now, what else can I tell ya? Let’s see… They got all sorts of rules in this game. Keeps it fair, I suppose. My grandson, he tried to explain them all to me once. But it was a lot to take in, all at once.
But the main thing to remember is them nine innings. That’s the heart of it, really. Nine innings in a regular college baseball game. Unless they go into them extra innings, or that mercy rule thing happens.
These college boys, they’re good. Really good. They practice hard, I reckon. And they sure do love the game. Just like my grandson. He eats, sleeps, and breathes baseball, that boy. He always says playing baseball is his favorite thing to do.
So, there ya have it. Nine innings in college baseball. That’s the gist of it. It is a simple game, when you think about it. Just a bunch of young fellas, throwin’ a ball around, tryin’ to score some runs. Nine innings usually. Except when it is not nine innings.
Hope that clears things up for ya. It ain’t rocket science, as they say. Just good old-fashioned baseball. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I hear my grandson callin’. He’s probably wantin’ to talk about baseball some more. That boy, I tell ya. He can talk about college baseball all day long.
