So, I found myself looking up the weather for the BMW Championship earlier. Not actually going this year, but it’s sort of a habit, you know? Just curious what the players are dealing with out there. Pulled up my phone, checked the usual couple of apps I flip between.

One says sun, the other hints at showers. Typical. Never really trust those things completely, do you? It got me thinking, actually. Reminded me of this time, years ago, wasn’t even golf. It was this big outdoor festival thing me and the missus planned to hit.
That Whole Weather Forecast Mess
We were looking forward to it for ages. Booked time off work, the whole nine yards. Then, maybe three days before, the forecast just tanks. Seriously, it looked like monsoon season was coming early.
They were calling for:
- Heavy rain pretty much all day.
- Possible thunderstorms, lightning, the works.
- Strong winds whipping through.
Looked absolutely miserable. We talked about it back and forth. Dragging ourselves out there, getting soaked, maybe the whole thing gets cancelled halfway through anyway? Sounded like a nightmare, honestly. So, we bailed. Called it off, figured we’d just stay home, maybe catch a movie. Felt sensible at the time.
And guess what? The actual day arrives. I wake up, look out the window… bright sunshine. Not a cloud in the sky. Stayed like that all damn day. Perfect temperature, gentle breeze. Later saw some photos online from friends who did go. Looked like they had the time of their lives. Felt like a total chump, telling you.
Made me realize you just can’t bank on those forecasts too hard. Sometimes you gotta just go for it, you know? So yeah, checking that BMW weather… it’s data, sure, but it ain’t the gospel truth. You never know ’til you’re standing right there in it.
