Okay, let’s talk about this holiday bowl ring I put together. It wasn’t some grand plan, just felt like doing something crafty for the table, you know? Something festive but not too over the top.

Getting Started
First things first, I needed a bowl. Didn’t want anything fancy, just something simple that could hold stuff. Found an old wooden salad bowl kicking around in the cupboard. Perfect. Didn’t cost a dime, which is always good.
Then, the ‘ring’ part. I thought about using real greenery, but honestly, the cleanup? No thanks. Went down to the craft store and grabbed some artificial pine branches. The kind that are wired so you can bend them. Also picked up:
- Some small red berry sprigs (fake, obviously)
- A few pinecones – got a bag of small ones
- A couple of those little glittery ball ornaments, gold and silver
- My trusty hot glue gun and plenty of glue sticks
Putting it Together
Back home, I cleared off the kitchen table. Spread out some newspaper because hot glue gets messy, trust me on this one. I took the wooden bowl and placed it right in the center.
I started by taking one of the longer pine branches and sort of bending it into a rough circle around the base of the bowl. Didn’t need to be perfect yet. Did that with a few more pieces, overlapping them slightly, until I had a basic green ring shape sitting there on the newspaper, surrounding the bowl.
Next came the glue gun. Carefully, I started tacking the overlapping branch parts together. Just little dabs of glue here and there to make the ring hold its shape. Burned my finger once, naturally. Always happens.
Once the basic green ring felt sturdy enough, I began adding the extras. I snipped smaller pieces off the pine branches to fill in any gaps, gluing them in place. Then I started poking in the red berry sprigs. Tried to space them out evenly. A bit of glue on the stem, push it into the green base. Easy stuff.
The pinecones were next. Put a decent blob of hot glue on the bottom of each one and nestled them into the greenery. Added maybe five or six? Didn’t want to overdo it. Then came the glittery ornaments. Same deal – hot glue and find a spot where they looked good. Added a bit of sparkle.
The Final Look
I let the whole thing sit for maybe half an hour for the glue to really harden. Then I carefully lifted the finished ring off the newspaper and placed it around the wooden bowl on the dining table. Stood back and looked.

You know what? It turned out pretty nice. Simple, like I wanted. Just a ring of green with pops of red and gold around that plain bowl. Filled the bowl with some tangerines later, looked quite cheerful.
It wasn’t complicated. Took maybe an hour, tops? Mostly just fiddling with placement and trying not to burn myself again. But yeah, a successful little holiday project. Made the place feel a bit more festive. Job done.
