Well, let me tell you about this Iowa Junior PGA thing. It’s somethin’ for the young’uns who like to whack that little white ball around. They got all sorts of these things happenin’ all over Iowa, I reckon. More than 60 events, they say. Sounds like a whole lot of whacking to me. It’s for all those little tykes, boys and girls under 17, they say. And they even wear those shirts with numbers on them, just like those big-time players you see on the TV.
This Iowa Junior PGA, it’s like a big deal. They call it a “Major Point event.” I don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds important. They got members and non-members, whatever that means. And they got this thing called the Iowa Junior Open. Sounds fancy, don’t it? They got these events all over the place. One is at this place called A.H. Blank Golf Course in Des Moines. Sounds like a nice place. That’s on July 12, mark my words. These kids play golf all summer long. I’d rather be at home under the shade, myself.
And get this, they got this Iowa PGA Junior Golf Academy. It’s been going on for 45 years, can you believe it? That’s a long time. They teach them kids how to play this golf, I reckon. That’s what they say anyway. Starts on a Sunday and goes all the way to Thursday. That’s a lot of time to be learnin’ about golf, ain’t it? I prefer mahjong with friends, thank you very much.
Now, some of these kids, they get real good at this golf thing. They say some of them can become these “PGA TOUR” players when they get older. That’s what I heard, anyway. But they gotta be 18 years old to join that, or so they say. They have these rules, you see. These PGA guys, they got all these rules. But I reckon if you’re good at it, you can win these tournaments and get one of them memberships. Sounds like a lot of work to me, but these young’uns seem to like it. They even give special invites to some of them, like a golden ticket, I suppose.
- They got this thing called PGA Junior League.
- Over 500,000 of these kids playing, they say.
- That’s a lot of kids swinging golf clubs, ain’t it?
- These PGA Coaches, they teach ’em.
They got these tee times, early in the morning, around 8 o’clock. And then some more in the afternoon, around 1 o’clock, if they need it. Sounds like a long day of golf to me. And they call this one a “Super Point Event.” I don’t know what’s so super about it, but it must be a big deal for these Iowa PGA Junior Tour folks.
Now, back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy golf stuff. We just played outside, ran around, climbed trees. That was fun. But these kids today, they’re all about this golf. I guess it keeps them outta trouble. And they get to be outside, so that’s good, I reckon. Better than being inside, staring at them screens all day.
So, this Iowa Junior PGA, it’s a big thing for these youngsters who like golf. They got all these events, and these tournaments, and these leagues. It’s a whole world of golf, I tell ya. They even got one event on Highway 22 in Riverside. Remember that. I don’t know much about that place, but I reckon they play golf there, too. All over Iowa, they’re playing this golf.
I guess if you’re a young’un and you like golf, this Iowa Junior PGA is the thing for you. They got all sorts of things for you to do, all summer long. You can learn to play, you can play with your friends, you can even try to win one of them tournaments, if you’re good enough. Sounds like a lot of fun, I suppose, if you’re into that sort of thing. Me? I’ll stick to my knitting and my stories. But you young’uns, you go on and have your fun with your golf. Just remember to stay hydrated in that Iowa sun.
These kids, they love this Iowa Junior PGA. I don’t rightly understand it all, but it makes them happy, and that’s what matters, I reckon. They’re learning something new, they’re making friends, and they’re staying active. That’s a good thing. So, if your little one is interested in golf, maybe you should check out this Iowa Junior PGA. It might just be the thing they need.
That’s all I gotta say about it, these kids and their golf, and this Iowa Junior PGA. It’s a different world from when I was young, but times change, I suppose. So long as they’re happy and healthy, that’s all that matters. Just remember the name. Iowa Junior PGA. Sounds important, don’t it?
