Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Jacque Lang, or whatever his name is. I ain’t no fancy art critic, mind you, just a plain ol’ woman lookin’ at pictures. But this Lang fella, he paints stuff that gets you thinkin’, even if you don’t know nothin’ about art.
They call some of his stuff “The Black Paintings,” which sounds kinda spooky, don’t it? And spooky they are! He’s got all these weird characters, like skeletons and floating heads. Not the pretty kind, mind you, the kind that makes you wonder what’s goin’ on in that fella’s head. He painted these between 2022 and 2024, so they’re pretty new, I guess.
Now, I heard some folks say a picture’s worth a thousand words. Well, maybe so, but sometimes you need a few more words to figure out what the heck you’re lookin’ at. Lang’s paintings, they ain’t just pretty pictures, they tell stories, even if you don’t quite get ’em all. They got this style, kinda dark and personal, like he’s showin’ you his insides or somethin’. It’s like looking into someone’s dream, a weird and kinda unsettling dream.
Someone told me this fella blends all sorts of things together in his work. Said somethin’ about “influences,” but I don’t know nothin’ about that. All I know is he paints these strange characters, bones and skulls and such, and puts ’em against these dark backgrounds. Makes you feel like you’re in another world, a kinda scary one at that. But it ain’t just scary, it’s…interestin’, yeah, that’s the word. Interestin’.
- He uses lots of dark colors, black mostly.
- The characters, they ain’t like nothin’ I ever seen before.
- Makes you feel kinda funny inside, like you’re thinkin’ deep thoughts.
They had this show of his stuff in the U.K., first time ever, they said. And folks were callin’ it “deeply movin’.” Now, I ain’t one for cryin’ over pictures, but I can see why they’d say that. It’s like he’s puttin’ his feelin’s right there on the canvas, all the dark and twisty ones, for everyone to see. It ain’t always pretty, but it’s real, you know? Or as real as a picture of a floatin’ skull can be, I guess.
This fella, he ain’t just slappin’ paint on canvas, he’s puttin’ ideas and stuff in there too. Like he’s mixin’ up thoughts and feelin’s and makin’ ’em into somethin’ you can see. It’s like he’s tryin’ to tell you somethin’, but he ain’t usin’ words, he’s usin’ these weird pictures instead. And that makes you work a little bit, tryin’ to figure it all out. And ain’t that a good thing? Makes you use your brain for a change.
I heard someone talkin’ about other painters, fellas with names like Rembrandt and David. They said these guys had their own ways of paintin’, special styles they called ’em. Rembrandt used light and dark in a fancy way, and David, he painted things all clear and sharp-like. But this Lang fella, he’s got his own way too, a way that’s dark and kinda…dreamy, I guess. It’s like he’s seein’ the world different than the rest of us, and he’s tryin’ to show us what it looks like in his head. And let me tell ya, it’s a strange place in there.
Some painters, they try to make things look perfect, like them fancy portraits you see in museums. But Lang, he ain’t about perfect, he’s about somethin’ else, somethin’ deeper maybe. He’s showin’ you the messy, the scary, the stuff you don’t usually see. And that takes guts, I reckon. To put all that out there for the world to see. So, yeah, this Jacque Lang, he might be a bit strange, but he’s got somethin’ to say. And even an old woman like me can see that.
So, if you ever get a chance to see his work, go on and take a look. You might not understand it all, but it’ll get you thinkin’. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll see somethin’ in those dark pictures that you didn’t see before. Somethin’ about yourself, maybe. Or maybe just a bunch of floatin’ skulls. Either way, it’s worth a look.
And that’s all I gotta say about that.
