Alright, so listen up, y’all. We gotta talk about this fella, Jamie Young, and how he’s now with the Villanova basketball team. Yep, that’s right, the Villanova Wildcats. Heard tell he’s gonna be an assistant coach, whatever that means. Probably means he’ll be yellin’ at them young’uns on the court, just like my old man used to yell at the cows when they wouldn’t go into the barn.
Now, they say this Jamie Young fella, he’s been around basketball for a good long while. Twenty-four years, they say. That’s a whole lotta basketball games, ain’t it? I reckon he knows a thing or two about throwin’ that orange ball around. He was with them Boston Celtics for a long spell, somethin’ like twenty-one years. Started out watchin’ videos, they say. Video coordinator, they called it. Sounds fancy, but I bet it was just watchin’ games and takin’ notes, like I watch the chickens peckin’ in the yard and know when they’re gonna lay an egg.
Then he moved on up, I guess. Started helpin’ with the coachin’ and all. Learned the ropes, so to speak. And now, he’s here at Villanova. Land sakes, it’s a long way from Boston, ain’t it? But I reckon a basketball job is a basketball job, no matter where you are. Just like farmin’ is farmin’, whether you’re plantin’ corn or potatoes. This fella, Jamie, he’s from Indiana, some town called Logansport. Don’t know where that is, but sounds like a good ol’ country place. Probably got some good folks there, just like us.
- Jamie Young is now an assistant coach at Villanova University.
- He worked for the Boston Celtics for 21 years.
- He’s got 24 years of coaching experience.
- Originally from Logansport, Indiana.
They also got this other fella, Dixon, head coach of TCU Horned Frogs. They mention him, I don’t know why, but sound like he used to play ball too. And another fella, Wright. Married to some Patricia Reilly lady. Got two boys. Don’t know what they got to do with Jamie Young, but the newspaper folks like to put in all sorts of details, don’t they? Just like old Mrs. Henderson who tells everyone the whole story even if you only ask for the time of day.
Anyways, Villanova hired Jamie Young in June of 2024. That ain’t too long ago. He’s probably still gettin’ settled in, learnin’ the names of all them players, figuring out where the best coffee is on campus. I hope they treat him right, this Jamie Young fella. Give him a good place to stay, plenty of fried chicken, and maybe a slice of apple pie now and then. That’s what I’d do, if he was comin’ to my place. But I reckon college basketball ain’t like livin’ on a farm. It’s a whole different ball game, so to speak. Maybe he’ll do alright though. Seems like he’s been around the block a few times. And who knows, maybe he’ll help Villanova win a championship or somethin’. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it? A good ol’ country boy helpin’ them city slickers win at basketball. I’d like to see that.
So, that’s the story on Jamie Young joining up with Villanova. He’s a basketball coach, been doin’ it a long time, and now he’s gonna try his hand at helpin’ them Wildcats. Good luck to him, I say. And good luck to them Wildcats too. They’re gonna need it, goin’ up against all them other fancy teams. But hey, with a fella like Jamie Young on their side, maybe they got a shot. Just gotta remember to keep their heads down, work hard, and maybe eat a good breakfast every mornin’. That’s what I always say. A good breakfast and a little bit of grit will get you through just about anything, whether you’re farmin’ corn or coachin’ basketball.
Villanova basketball is lucky to have him, I reckon. Hope he brings them some good luck. Maybe he’ll teach them boys a thing or two about work ethic. That’s what these young folks need these days, a little bit of good ol’ fashioned hard work.
