Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout them Harbaugh fellas, Jim and John. Folks get all mixed up, thinkin’ they’re twins or somethin’. Nope, not twins. Heck, one’s older than the other, plain as day.
John, that’s the older one, he’s the coach for the Ravens, you know, the football team with the purple birds. He’s a bit bigger, always was, I hear. And Jim, the younger fella, he’s coachin’ the Chargers now, out in California where the sun always shines, or so they say.
Now, these two boys, they come from a football family, their daddy was a coach too. So, I guess it’s in their blood, like how my grandpappy was a farmer and I ended up milkin’ cows my whole life. But these Harbaugh boys, they ain’t milkin’ cows, they’re yellin’ at football players and drawin’ up plays on them fancy whiteboards.
- John, he’s the older brother. Sixty-two years old, they say. Been coachin’ a long time, that one.
- Jim, he’s the younger one. Sixty years old. Just a tad younger, but still plenty old if you ask me.
They played against each other not too long ago. John’s Ravens beat Jim’s Chargers. Heard it was a close game, folks callin’ it “Harbaugh Bowl” part three or somethin’. Imagine that, two brothers coachin’ against each other in a big ol’ football game. Must be somethin’ special, though I reckon they both wanted to win somethin’ fierce.
After the game, they hugged it out. That’s what brothers do, I guess. Even if one beat the other, they still love each other. Reminds me of my boys, always fightin’ over who got the bigger piece of pie, but they’d be thick as thieves the next minute. John, he told Jim he was a great coach and he loved him. Jim, he said the same thing back. See? Family’s family, even when you’re battlin’ on the football field.
Jim used to be a quarterback, played for a long time, fourteen years they say. But John, he was always bigger, even when they were kids. Probably pushed Jim around a bit, you know how older brothers are. But they both ended up in the same line of work, coachin’ football. Must be somethin’ in the water, or maybe just in that Harbaugh family blood.
Now, some folks might get confused, thinkin’ they’re twins ’cause they’re both coaches and they both got that Harbaugh name. But like I said, they ain’t twins. Just brothers, close in age, but not twins. John’s older by fifteen months, that’s more’n a year. One’s a little bit bigger, a little bit older, and maybe a little bit better looking, depends on who you ask, I reckon.
And let me tell you, coachin’ ain’t easy. You gotta be tough, gotta be smart, and you gotta know how to handle them young fellas playin’ the game. These Harbaugh boys, they seem to know what they’re doin’. They’ve both had success, won games, and got their teams playin’ hard. Must be that Harbaugh way, somethin’ their daddy taught ’em, I bet.
So, next time you hear someone talkin’ ’bout the Harbaugh twins, you can set ’em straight. Tell ’em, “Them ain’t twins, they’re brothers. John and Jim Harbaugh, two football coaches, but not twins.” And that’s all there is to it. Just a couple of brothers, doin’ what they love, and makin’ a name for themselves in the football world.
It’s all about family and football with them Harbaughs. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, I reckon. Even if they do yell at each other from across the field sometimes.
