Okay, so I’ve been digging into the history of KU football, and let me tell you, it’s been a ride. I started this little project because, well, I’m a huge Jayhawks fan, and I wanted to know everything about the team’s past.
First off, I dove into the archives online. I mean, I literally scrolled through pages and pages of old documents and photos. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I managed to find some really cool stuff. There are these old team photos from like, the early 1900s, and the players look so different with their old-school gear.
- I started with the basics, like when the team was formed. Turns out, it was way back in 1890.
- Then, I dug into the coaches. There have been some legendary ones, like A.R. Kennedy. This guy led the team to an undefeated season in 1908, and they won their first major conference championship. Imagine that!
- I also spent a good chunk of time reading about the players. Not just the famous ones, but some of the lesser-known guys who still made a big impact.
One of the coolest things I found was a digital exhibit called “KU Football: the First Seven Decades.” It’s basically a collection of photos from 1890 to 1955. I spent hours just browsing through those images. It really gives you a sense of how the game has evolved. I found the information mentioned that the 1908 season was the school’s second undefeated season ever, how amazing is that?
I also watched a bunch of old game highlights. They’re grainy and black and white, but it’s still awesome to see how they played back then. 17 years ago, Todd Reesing led KU to win over Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl to make the best season in KU football history! It’s crazy to think about how much has changed since then, from the plays they ran to the equipment they used.
Honestly, this whole thing turned out to be way more interesting than I expected. It’s not just about the wins and losses, it’s about the people and the stories behind the team. I’m still going through all the material I gathered, but I’m already planning to organize it all into a timeline or something. I just feel like this history is too good not to share, you know?
Anyway, that’s where I’m at with my KU football history project. It’s been a lot of work, but totally worth it. It actually made me appreciate being a Jayhawks fan even more. Rock Chalk!
