Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “new york white hat” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I started with absolutely zero clue what I was doing. Just a total newbie, you know?

Getting Started
First, I needed to figure out what this even was. I Googled it a bit, read some stuff, watched some videos… basically, I dove into the internet rabbit hole. I realized it’s about, like, ethical hacking and cybersecurity, which sounded pretty cool, but also super intimidating.
The Learning Curve
I signed up for a few online courses. Some were free, some I had to pay for. Honestly, the free ones were a mixed bag. Some were helpful for the very basics, but I quickly realized I needed something more structured. The paid courses were definitely better, more organized, and had actual exercises to do.
- Tried a bunch of different platforms for learning. Some were really dry and boring, others were more engaging. I learned that I need hands-on practice, not just lectures.
- Struggled with some of the concepts at first. It’s like learning a new language, with all the jargon and technical terms.
- Joined some online forums and communities. It was awesome to connect with other people who were learning too. We shared tips, helped each other out, and generally just commiserated about how hard it was sometimes.
Putting it into Practice
Once I felt like I had a decent grasp of the basics, I started trying things out. I downloaded some virtual machines and set up a little lab environment on my computer. This was crucial because I didn’t want to accidentally mess with anything real.
I started with some simple exercises, like scanning for open ports and identifying vulnerabilities. It was slow going at first, and I made a ton of mistakes. But with each mistake, I learned something new. I kept a notebook where I jotted down everything I did, what worked, what didn’t, and what I needed to research more.
After that I used all of my knowledges I learned to * I did it!
Still Learning
I’m definitely not an expert yet, not by a long shot. But I’ve come a long way from where I started. It’s been challenging, frustrating, and incredibly rewarding. I’m still learning every day, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
I recommand everyone do it step by step,do not give up halfway,I believe you can make it eventurally!
