So, I’ve been digging into this golfer, Lexi Thompson, and her driving distance. Man, this lady can hit the ball! I wanted to see just how far she can whack that little white ball, and let me tell you, it’s impressive.
First off, I started watching some videos of her playing. I mean, I just searched for “Lexi Thompson driving” and a bunch of stuff popped up. Her swing is smooth as butter. She really puts her whole body into it, but it looks so effortless. I tried mimicking her stance and swing in my living room – almost took out a lamp, ha! Not as easy as she makes it look.
Then I went down the rabbit hole of stats. Turns out, back in 2021, she was averaging around 278 yards per drive. Can you believe that? That’s like almost three football fields! I tried pacing it out in the park, and let’s just say I was winded. And get this, the longest average that year on the LPGA tour was 290 by some other amazing lady named Anne van Dam. They are powerful, aren’t they?
I also found out she uses this fancy Cobra RadSpeed driver. It’s a powerful one, just eight degrees. She’s got some special weights in it to help her hit it even farther. I don’t even know what half that stuff means, but it sounds high-tech. I went to a sports store to check out some drivers. They had a whole wall of them! I held a few, pretended I knew what I was doing, but they all felt the same to me. Definitely not cheap, either.
- Watched videos of Lexi Thompson’s swing.
- Looked up her average driving distance stats.
- Researched the type of driver she uses.
- Visited a sports store to see golf drivers in person.
And I found out Lexi Thompson made history as the youngest golfer to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open at age 12. She has won 11 LPGA Tour titles, with her latest victory at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June 2019. She’s a real talent.
She’s retired now and has all the time to spend with her cute dog, Leo. I saw so many pictures of them on Instagram. She really loves that little dog.
From what I read, her swing technique is a big part of it. Something about maximizing distance and keeping accuracy. I tried practicing my own swing in the backyard, but let’s just say my neighbors’ gardens are now in danger. I also heard that the kind of equipment you use matters a lot. Maybe I should invest in one of those high-tech drivers, though my wallet might cry. And also the course conditions can make a big difference. Like, if it’s windy or hilly, that changes things.
My Practice
So, to get a better sense of this 280-yard thing, I went to a driving range. I grabbed a bucket of balls and a driver that felt kinda right. First few swings? Total whiffs. I was hitting the ground more than the ball. But I kept at it, trying to remember how Lexi does it. Eventually, I started making contact. Most of my drives were probably around 100 yards, maybe a bit more on a good day. I did manage to whack one that felt really solid. No idea how far it actually went, but in my head, it was at least 250, haha!
After an hour or so, my arms were like jelly, and I had a new appreciation for what Lexi and other pro golfers do. It’s way harder than it looks on TV. But it was fun, and I can see why people get hooked on golf.
I learned it’s not just about hitting the ball hard. There’s a whole lot of technique and practice involved. And those pros make it look so easy. I’ll keep practicing, though. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll break 200 yards. Or at least not embarrass myself too much on the golf course!
All in all, it’s been a fun little experiment. Lexi Thompson is a beast with that driver, and I’m officially a fan. Maybe I’ll even try to catch one of her old tournaments on TV sometime.
