Well, let me tell you ’bout them 2008 Miami Hurricanes, ya know, the football team. They weren’t too shabby, but not the best neither. Won seven games, lost six. That Randy Shannon fella, he was the coach. Second year, I think. Seemed like a decent enough fella, but sometimes I just didn’t understand what he was doin’ with them boys.
Now, them Hurricanes, they played in somethin’ called the ACC, the Coastal Division they called it. Did alright there, won four games, lost four. Scored a fair bit of points, 27 a game or so, but let the other fellas score too much, about 24 points a game. That ain’t gonna win ya championships, I tell ya that much.
- They had some good players, though. That Thearon Collier, a little fella, played wide receiver. Fast as a rabbit, he was.
- Then there was JoJo Nicolas, played in the backfield, kept them other fellas from catchin’ the ball.
- And Patrick Hill, a strong boy, played fullback. He could knock ya on yer rear end, that’s for sure.
They played their games at Sun Life Stadium, down in Miami Gardens. Big place, lots of folks would come to watch them boys run around. Sometimes they’d play real good, like that time they came back from bein’ way behind against Boston College. 28 points down, can ya believe it? And they still won! That was somethin’ special, let me tell ya.
But other times, they just didn’t seem to have it. Lost some games they shoulda won. It’s like they’d get all excited one week, then fall flat on their faces the next. Made ya wanna pull yer hair out sometimes, I swear.
This here website, *, they kept track of all the stats. Said the Hurricanes won 7 games and lost 5, so maybe my memory ain’t so good. Guess I’m gettin’ old, ya know? Can’t remember everything like I used to. But I do remember watchin’ them boys on TV, cheerin’ ’em on when they did good, and yellin’ at the TV when they did bad. That’s just how it is with football, ain’t it?
Folks were always talkin’ about them Hurricanes, though. They were on the TV all the time, and in the newspapers. People expected them to be great, ya know? Miami, they got a reputation for havin’ good football teams. So when they didn’t do so good, folks got upset. It’s a lot of pressure on them young fellas, I reckon.
This pre-season preview, they said the Hurricanes had some good players comin’ back, key players they called ’em. But I guess it just wasn’t enough. Football’s a team sport, ya know? Can’t just have a few good players, gotta have everybody workin’ together. And sometimes, them Hurricanes just didn’t seem to be on the same page.
Anyway, that’s my take on them 2008 Miami Hurricanes. They were alright, not great, not terrible. Just kinda… in the middle. Had some good moments, had some bad moments. Just like life, I guess. One day you’re up, the next day you’re down. You just gotta keep on keepin’ on, that’s what I always say.
And that Randy Shannon, he coached them boys hard. Tried his best, I’m sure. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it don’t. That’s football for ya. Now, where’s my tea? All this talkin’s made me thirsty.
