Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this LSU POA thing, whatever that means. I ain’t no fancy college person, but I can tell ya what I heard and what it all sounds like to me.
So, there’s this girl, Last-Tear Poa, plays basketball for LSU. Sounds like a sad name, Last-Tear, poor thing. Anyway, she’s from far away, Australia they say. Big place, Australia. She’s been playin’ ball here in America for a while now, and seems like she’s pretty good.
Now, this POA, I think it has somethin’ to do with money and school. See, these kids, they gotta pay to go to school, and it ain’t cheap. LSU, that’s Louisiana State University, a big school, lots of kids. And they all need money to go there. So, they got this thing called financial aid, which means they give you money to help pay for school. But you gotta prove you’re actually goin’ to school, that’s the Proof of Attendance part, the POA.
- First thing, they say you gotta understand what kinda POA you need. Sounds complicated, like pickin’ the right kind of beans at the store. Too many choices these days.
- Then they give you all these forms and papers to fill out. Lord have mercy, the paperwork! Reminds me of tryin’ to get the government to help with the farm back in the day. Nothin’ but forms and waitin’.
- And then you gotta have an advisor, someone to help you with all this mess. Like a helper, you know? They split ‘em up by last name, like if your name starts with an A you go to this person, and if it starts with a B you go to someone else. Sounds like a whole lotta fuss to me.
But this Last-Tear girl, she got into some other trouble with this POA thing. Seems like she’s makin’ money, good for her, from her name and picture and all. They call it NIL, somethin’ about name, image, and likeness. These kids these days, makin’ money off their faces! Well, good for them, I say. But the government, they got their fingers in everything, don’t they? They put restrictions on her, said she couldn’t earn as much as the American kids, ’cause she’s from another country.
So, she lawyered up! Good for her. She sued them, said it ain’t fair. And you know what? She’s right. If you’re good enough to play, you should get paid just like everyone else. Don’t matter where you come from. This ain’t right! That’s what I always say. Fair is fair, right?
And then, wouldn’t you know it, the poor girl got hurt. Hit her head durin’ a game. Got a concussion, they say. That’s bad. Hope she’s gonna be alright. All that runnin’ and jumpin’ and then bam! Heads ain’t meant to hit the floor like that. Maybe she needs more than just money help now, maybe she needs someone to look after her too, help her with all this POA stuff while she’s recoverin’.
This whole POA thing at LSU, sounds like a big headache to me. All this money and papers and rules and advisors… It’s enough to make your head spin. These kids, they just wanna go to school and play ball, or whatever it is they’re learnin’. Why they gotta make it so hard? And that Last-Tear girl, she’s just tryin’ to make a livin’ and play the game she loves. Hope she gets better soon and gets all this sorted out. And this LSU, they need to get their act together, helpin’ the kids out, not givin’ ‘em more trouble. They gotta remember, these students, they got to focus on learnin’ and such. Not just paper work!
LSU says they wanna help the students. They say they want to educate them and make things better. But sometimes I wonder. Seems like they just got more and more rules and more and more hoops to jump through. Maybe they should listen to the old folks like me once in a while. We might not have all the fancy book learnin’, but we know what’s right and what’s wrong. And treatin’ people fair, that’s always right, no matter where they come from or what their name is.
And another thing, this Student Advocacy Accountability thing they got. SAA they call it. Sounds like another bunch of rules and regulations. They say they wanna help the students, but seems like they spend most of their time tellin’ them what they can’t do. They talk about ‘community’ and ‘responsibility’, but it just sounds like a lot of fancy words to me. Back in my day, community meant helpin’ your neighbor, not fillin’ out forms and gettin’ in trouble for every little thing.
So, that’s my take on this LSU POA business. A whole lotta fuss about money and rules and papers. And a poor girl from Australia just tryin’ to play some basketball and get an education. Hope it all works out for her, and for all those other kids tryin’ to make their way in the world. They got enough to worry about without all this extra hassle. And remember, a little kindness and common sense goes a long way. That’s somethin’ they don’t teach you in school, no matter how much money you got or how many forms you fill out.
