Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another little experiment I did today. So, I was trying to do this thing called a “lying down crossword,” and I figured I’d share the whole mess with you guys. So let’s get to it.
First off, I started by looking up what the heck this “lying down crossword” thing even is. I typed it into the search bar, and bam, a ton of stuff popped up. It looked like a lot of folks have different answers for this, like, 8, 40, or even 103 possible solutions! That’s a wild range, you know? Anyway, I dug around a bit, and it seems like this isn’t a standard crossword thing. More like a specific clue that shows up in different crossword puzzles.
Searching for Clues
I found a bunch of websites that said they had the answers. They listed all sorts of words, from 3 letters up to 10 or even more. Some suggested it might be a clue from the NY Times, or some other big-shot crossword. I figured the best way to tackle this was to just see what words kept coming up over and over again.
- I noticed some folks saying there were 2 answers, some saying 3, and others claiming way more.
- Lots of websites claimed to have the “definitive” answer, but they all differed from each other.
- I started making a list of the most common words that showed up.
Experiment Results
After sifting through all this, I ended up with a handful of words that seemed pretty likely. I tried plugging them into a few different crossword grids I found online, just to see if they fit. It was kind of hit or miss, to be honest. Some words worked in some puzzles, but not in others. It really depends on the specific crossword you’re doing.
The whole thing was a bit of a brain teaser, but it was kind of fun, too. I didn’t find a single “magic” answer that worked every time. But, in my experience, I think it is kind of cool that there could be so many different solutions for one clue. It just goes to show how tricky these crosswords can be! And I heard from some puzzlers that looking up answers isn’t a bad thing. One of them said, “It isn’t cheating if something isn’t an established rule.” Doing crossword puzzles can actually help with your vocabulary, memory, and stuff like that.
So yeah, that was my little adventure with the “lying down crossword” clue. It wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right? Hope you guys enjoyed hearing about my little experiment. Catch you all later!
