Alright, let’s gab about this here “MLB The Show 23” game, and how hard it is to play. You know, the young’uns are always yappin’ about it. They say it’s got all these fancy difficulties, like a whole mess of ’em. Makes an old woman’s head spin, I tell ya.
First off, they got this “Casual” thing. Sounds easy enough, right? Like you’re just throwin’ the ball around in the backyard with the grandkids. They say it’s good for learnin’ the game. Probably means it’s for them city slickers who ain’t never held a bat before.
Then there’s this “Simulation” mode. Now that sounds serious. Like the real deal, like watchin’ the game on that there TV box. They say it plays “true” to the players and teams. Whatever that means. Back in my day, baseball was baseball. You hit the ball, you ran, you caught the ball. Simple as that.
For the young fellas just startin’ out, they say to pick the lowest setting. That’s called “Rookie,” I think. Makes sense, I guess. Gotta learn to crawl before you can run, just like little Timmy learnin’ to walk. They also talk about somethin’ called “Dynamic” difficulty. Sounds like it changes all the time. Keeps you on your toes, I reckon.
Now, this “Ranked” play is where it gets tricky. It’s like climbin’ a ladder, they say. You win games, you go up. You lose, you come tumblin’ down. And the higher you go, the harder it gets. Makes sense, I s’pose. Life ain’t easy, and neither is this here baseball game.
The thing about Ranked is, the difficulty depends on who you’re playin’ against. If you’re playin’ some hotshot who’s real good, the game gets harder. If you’re playin’ against someone who’s still learnin’, like little Timmy, it’s easier.
- If your opponent’s rank is between 0 and 199, it’s “Veteran” difficulty.
- If they’re between 200 and 699, it’s “All-Star” difficulty. That’s where most folks end up, I hear.
- And if you’re playin’ against a real pro, someone between 700 and 899, it’s “Hall of Fame” difficulty. Now that’s tough, I bet. Like tryin’ to catch a greased pig.
They also got somethin’ called “Legend” difficulty. That’s the hardest one, they say. Only the best of the best can play on that. I reckon that’s for them fellas on the TV, the ones who make all the money.
From what I gather, the main thing that changes with the difficulty is how fast the ball is pitched, and how big that there PCI thing is. PCI? Sounds like somethin’ you’d find in a doctor’s office. But apparently, it’s somethin’ to do with hittin’ the ball. The harder the difficulty, the faster the pitches come, and the smaller that PCI thing gets. Makes it harder to hit, see?
So, you start out on “Rookie,” win some games, you get points. You lose, you lose points. Simple enough. And as you go up, the game gets harder and harder. Sounds like a lot of work to me. Back in my day, we just played ball. Didn’t need no fancy computers or rankings or nothin’.
But I guess that’s how the young’uns like it these days. All these different difficulties, all these different modes. Keeps ’em busy, I s’pose. Me? I’d rather sit on the porch with a glass of lemonade and watch the real game. But hey, to each their own, right?
So there ya have it. A whole mess of different difficulties in this here “MLB The Show 23” game. From easy peasy “Casual” to hard as nails “Legend.” You just gotta pick the one that’s right for you, or let the game pick it for ya in that there “Ranked” mode. And remember, it ain’t about how hard it is, it’s about havin’ fun. Or so they tell me.
