Okay, so today, let me tell you about messing around with these Paradym irons. I’ve been trying to get the lofts right on them.
First off, I grabbed my set of Paradym irons. They’re pretty neat, but I felt the lofts were a bit off for my liking. So, I started by checking the standard specs. Turns out, these irons have lofts that are pretty much in line with what you see across the board. But here’s the kicker – I noticed that the standard Paradym irons, which are supposed to be for players looking for a bit more distance, actually have weaker lofts than the Paradym X irons. Those are meant for game improvement. Thought that was a bit backwards, you know?
Then, I dug a bit deeper into the whole loft thing. The pitching wedge on the Paradym is 42 degrees, and on the Paradym X, it’s 41. I mean, that’s almost like cheating, right? But the thing is, these irons are hollow-body, so they don’t really play like traditional irons.
Next, I decided to actually test these bad boys out. I used a launch monitor, the Foresight Sports GCQuad, and some Titleist Pro V1x balls. I focused on the 7-iron, which has a 29-degree loft. Hit a bunch of balls, watched the numbers pop up. The performance was pretty decent, I gotta say.
- I really liked how compact these irons felt, especially since they’re supposed to be in that “players distance” category.
- The blade length isn’t crazy long, which is a plus for me.
After that, I started messing around with some stronger lofts. I compared them to the standard setup. The top line was a bit thicker, and they had more tungsten in them, making the soles a bit chunkier.
Now, about the spin rates – they were a tad lower than what I expected. Normally, I look for backspin numbers to be around 85-90% of 1000 times the iron number. But with these Paradym irons, the spin was a bit on the lower side.
Finally, I took a good look at how these irons looked when setting up to hit. They definitely have that “player’s” look, which I dig. And from what I heard, Callaway’s coming out with a new version in 2024, the Paradym Ai Smoke Irons. Apparently, they’re supposed to be a total game-changer. Longer blade lengths, thinner toplines, and optimized sole widths. Sounds like they’re trying to make them more forgiving.
So, that’s my little adventure with the Paradym irons and their lofts. It was a fun little experiment, and I learned a thing or two along the way. Hope this was somewhat helpful for you guys!
