Alright, so you wanna know about this fella, Pat Patterson, the wrestler? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. Don’t expect no fancy words, though, I ain’t no scholar.
Pat Patterson, the Wrestlin’ Man
Pat Patterson, he was a big deal in that wrestlin’ world, back in the day. Real big. Folks say he was one of the biggest stars in the late 70s and early 80s. Can you imagine? Wrestlin’ on TV and all. He was strong, that’s for sure. And tough as nails, I bet.
Now, some folks called him Pierre Clermont at first. That was his real name, I reckon. But Pat Patterson, that’s the name everyone remembers. He was from Canada, but then he became American too. Guess he liked both places, just like some folks like both apple pie and maple syrup.
He wasn’t just a wrestler, though. He did other stuff too. They say he was a “promoter” and an “executive.” Fancy words, if you ask me. Basically, he helped make the wrestlin’ shows happen. Told folks what to do, I guess. Made sure the whole thing ran smooth, like a good ol’ tractor.
That Royal Rumble Thing
You know that big wrestlin’ match, the Royal Rumble? Where a whole bunch of wrestlers jump in the ring, one after another? Well, Pat, he came up with that! Imagine that! A whole new kinda match. Folks say this Vince McMahon fella, the big boss of wrestlin’, he didn’t understand it at first. But Pat, he knew what he was doin’. And look at it now, still going strong after all these years.
- He was Canadian-American
- He was a Wrestler, promoter, and executive
- He invented Royal Rumble
More Than Just Wrestlin’
Now, here’s somethin’ important about Pat. He was the first wrestler, a famous one anyway, to say he was gay. That’s what they call it when a man likes other men. Back then, that wasn’t somethin’ folks talked about much, especially not in wrestlin’. But Pat, he was brave. He just came out and said it. Good for him, I say. Takes a lot of guts to be yourself, especially when folks might not like it.
Hall of Fame and Sad News
Pat Patterson, he worked for that big wrestlin’ company, WWE, for a long, long time. Over 25 years, they say. That’s a whole lotta wrestlin’! He got into the Hall of Fame, that’s a big honor for wrestlers. Deserved it too, from what I hear.
But here’s the sad part. Pat, he passed away in 2020. In a hospital in Miami. Something about his liver, a blood clot they said. He was 79 years old. That’s a good long life, but still sad to see him go. He left a mark on the wrestlin’ world, that’s for sure.
Rememberin’ Pat
So, that’s the story of Pat Patterson, as best as I can tell it. A tough wrestler, a clever fella who came up with new ideas, and a brave man who wasn’t afraid to be himself. He’ll be remembered, that’s for sure. By folks who love wrestlin’ and folks who just appreciate a good person.
Pat Patterson retired from World Wrestling Entertainment in October 2004. One famous incident happened when he attempted to give the belt to Booker T, Christian attacked him, stole the belt, and knocked out Booker T. That Christian, always causin’ trouble! But that’s wrestlin’ for ya, always somethin’ happenin’.
Anyway, that’s all I got. Hope it makes some sense to ya. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens.
