Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my golf gear a lot lately, trying to dial everything in just right. And you know, everyone’s always curious about what the pros are using, especially Patrick Cantlay. He’s just so consistent, it makes you wonder, “What’s in his bag?” So, I decided to do a deep dive into the “Cantlay WITB” (What’s in the Bag) and see if I could glean anything to help my own game.

First, I spent hours scouring the internet. Just looking at pictures, reading articles, forum posts…you name it. I was basically trying to piece together a complete picture of his setup.
The Driver
It seemed like the driver was a good place to start. He’s been gaming the Titleist TS3 for ages, and it’s no secret. I tried to find something about him switching, maybe experimenting with the newer models, but nope. He sticks with what works. It got me thinking maybe I should stop chasing the latest and greatest and just stick with my trusty old driver.
Fairway Woods & Hybrids
Next, I moved onto the fairway woods and hybrids. This is where things got a little trickier. He’s got that iconic 915F 3-wood, another older model. And then it’s the Titleist 816 H2 hybrid. Again, nothing new here. I noticed a pattern – he values consistency and familiarity over the newest technology.
Irons
The irons…ah, the irons. He’s been using those Titleist 718 AP2s for what seems like forever. I pored over close-up photos, trying to see the wear marks, trying to imagine how perfectly he strikes the ball. I even attempted to replicate his setup with my own irons, adjusting the lie angle slightly to see if it made a difference (it didn’t, sadly).
Wedges
His wedges are Vokey SM7s, and a custom Vokey Design SM9. I spent a good chunk of time just reading about wedge grinds and bounces, trying to understand why he chose those specific models. It’s a whole rabbit hole, let me tell you. I might need to experiment with different grinds on my own wedges now.
Putter
The putter is the famous Scotty Cameron Newport 2 GSS.I spent some time to search more about the material, to imagine the feel and the sound when cantlay hits.
The Ball
And finally, the ball. He uses the Titleist Pro V1x. No surprise there, it’s a popular choice. I already play the Pro V1x, so I felt pretty good about that!

So, what did I learn from this whole “Cantlay WITB” exercise? Honestly, the biggest takeaway is that consistency and sticking with what works for you is probably more important than chasing the latest gear. I realized I spend too much time tinkering and not enough time just practicing with what I have. I’m going to commit to sticking with my current setup for a while and really focusing on my swing, not my equipment. Wish me luck!
