Alright, let’s talk about my journey with the putter rossa spider. I remember it was back in, oh, late 2015, when I first got my hands on one.
I was looking for something new, something that could up my game. I’d been using this old Rossa L55, which, don’t get me wrong, was a trusty putter, but it was discontinued, and I felt it was time for a change. So, I started doing some research, reading reviews, watching videos, you know, the usual. I kept seeing the name “Spider” pop up, particularly the TaylorMade Spider.
Then, in November 2015, I walked into my local golf shop. And there it was. The TaylorMade Rossa Monza Spider. It looked different, felt different. It was a face-balanced putter. I’d heard those were good for a straight-back-and-through stroke, which is kinda my style. I spent a good hour just practicing with it in the store.
- Tried a few different grips.
- Tested out the alignment aids.
- Practiced short putts, long putts, you name it.
I was really digging it. It felt so stable. The ball rolled off the face so smoothly. I was making putts I usually missed.
February 26, 2021. I’m comparing my Spider to my old Rossa. I actually did some tests and the Spider got a whole point more than my old one, so, I made the switch. My putting stats improved. I was sinking more putts, my confidence was up, and I was generally having a better time on the course.
The Big Decision
Now, fast forward to August 25, 2024, I’m thinking about a new putter and of course the TaylorMade Rossa Monza Spider Vicino Putter comes to mind. During pre-production testing, I found out that the Vicino was supposed to be between the Monza Spider and Itsy Bitsy Monza in size, or something. And I saw some discussions online about choosing between the Spider X and Spider EX, but I’m kind of a loyalist, so I’m leaning towards the Vicino, but I’m still on the fence.
So that’s my story with the putter rossa spider. It’s been a good run. We’ll see what the future holds, but for now, I’m happy with my setup and it’s a story that continues to be written.
