Alright, so let me tell you about this year’s RBC Canadian Open. It was a bit of a rollercoaster, honestly.

First off, I decided to go pretty last minute. I’d been watching golf on TV, and just felt like I needed to be there in person. Checked the dates, saw it was in Hamilton this year, and thought, “Why not?” So, I bought my tickets online – grounds pass for the Saturday, figured that’d be the best day to soak it all in.
Saturday morning, I woke up early, grabbed a coffee and a quick breakfast, and drove down. Parking was a bit of a nightmare, as expected, but I eventually found a spot a little further out and hoofed it to the course.
Walking onto the grounds, the atmosphere was electric. Loads of people, the smell of hot dogs and beer, and the sound of golf balls being smacked a mile. I grabbed a course map and tried to figure out who I wanted to follow.
I ended up sticking with a group that had Rory McIlroy playing. Dude’s got such a smooth swing, it’s mesmerizing to watch. The crowds were massive around him, so I had to jockey for position to get a decent view. Managed to snap a few photos, though they’re probably blurry because everyone was moving around so much.
Spent a good chunk of the day just wandering around, checking out different holes, and grabbing a bite to eat. The food was decent, but overpriced, naturally. I saw a couple of amazing shots – one guy chipped in from the rough, and the crowd went wild. Moments like that are why you go to these things.
Around late afternoon, I started to get a bit tired. Walking a golf course all day in the sun is surprisingly exhausting. So, I found a spot on a hill overlooking one of the greens, sat down, and just chilled for a while, watching the players come through.
As the day wrapped up, I made my way back to the parking lot. The traffic was insane, but I eventually escaped and headed home.
Overall, it was a really fun day. It was cool to see these guys play in person, and just be a part of the atmosphere. Would I do it again? Definitely. Maybe next time I’ll bring a hat and some sunscreen though. I’m still a little sunburnt!

Definitely a good experience, even if my wallet is a little lighter now. That’s my RBC Canadian Open 2024 story. See ya next time!
