Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Rene Diaz. Sounds like a big shot, you know? Folks keep jabberin’ about him, so I figured I’d put in my two cents, even if it ain’t worth much.
Now, from what I hear, this Rene Diaz, he’s got his fingers in a lot of pies. He’s the big cheese at some place called Diaz Foods, and somethin’ called the Diaz Group too. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Probably makin’ more money than I ever seen in my life.
- He’s got somethin’ to do with Diaz Produce and Tortillas de Casa. Tortillas, huh? I make a mean tortilla myself, let me tell ya. But I bet his are all fancy-schmancy.
- He ain’t just sittin’ around countin’ his money, though. This fella even tried his hand at politics, runnin’ for the Texas House back in ’09. Thirty-four years old he was then. Young whippersnapper, thinkin’ he could change the world.
Then there’s another Rene Diaz, a young fella, just a kid really. A jockey, they call ’em. Rides horses for a livin’. Started racin’ down in Florida, Gulfstream Park they said, and had himself a big day at Keeneland. “A day I’ll never forget,” he said. Bless his heart. Reminds me of my grandson, always chasin’ after somethin’.
This jockey Rene Diaz, he’s only 22! And he just started ridin’ horses last year. Said it “runs in the blood,” whatever that means. Guess his family’s been doin’ this horse racin’ thing for a while. Makes you think, don’t it? Some folks are born to do certain things.
Now, is this the same Rene Diaz as the food guy? I ain’t so sure. Probably not. Too many Rene Diazes in this world, if you ask me. It’s like John Smith, or Mary Sue. You yell “Rene Diaz!” in a crowd, and half the folks might turn around.
And then there’s this other Rene Diaz, a superintendent for some school district in Phoenix. He retired once, but I guess he went back to work. Can’t blame him, sittin’ around all day gets old. You need somethin’ to keep you busy, keep you goin’. Even if it’s just bossin’ around a bunch of teachers. Just kiddin’, just kiddin’.
Then there’s a fella from El Paso, Luis Rene Diaz. He worked as a lobbyist for the city. Lobbyin’, now that’s somethin’ I don’t understand. Sounds like a bunch of smooth talkin’ to me. Tryin’ to get folks to do what you want, I reckon.
So, you got your food guy, your politician, your horse rider, your school superintendent, and your lobbyist, all with the same name. Makes your head spin, don’t it? Makes me wonder what other Rene Diazes are out there. Maybe there’s a doctor Rene Diaz, or a baker Rene Diaz. Who knows? The world’s a big place, full of all kinds of folks.
And let me tell you somethin’ else, this Facebook thing, it says there’s lots of folks named Rene Diaz. You can connect with them, share stuff. I don’t understand it, all this newfangled technology. But I guess it’s how folks keep in touch these days. Me? I prefer a good old-fashioned phone call, or better yet, a visit in person. But that’s just me, I’m old school.
So, there you have it. Everything I know about Rene Diaz, or should I say, Rene Diazes. A bunch of fellas sharin’ a name, livin’ different lives, doin’ different things. It just goes to show ya, a name ain’t everything. It’s what you do with your life that counts. And from what I gather, these Rene Diazes, they’re all makin’ their mark, one way or another. Good for them, I say. Good for them.
