Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with something called “Saban’s Power Rangers,” specifically those power rings. I remember watching the show as a kid and always being fascinated by how they transformed into their suits. It got me thinking, how could I maybe recreate that, even in a small way?
First, I scoured the internet for some good images of the original Power Rangers’ rings. I wanted something clear that showed the design well. I found a few decent pictures, especially of the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers rings. They have that classic, almost dinosaur-inspired look.
Next, I thought about what materials I could use. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, so I decided to use cardboard as my main base. It’s cheap, easy to find, and pretty simple to work with. I grabbed some old boxes from the garage and cut out some basic ring shapes. This was pretty rough, just getting the general size and shape down.
After that, it was time to add some details. I used a marker to draw out the designs from the pictures I found. I tried to copy the patterns as closely as possible, but it definitely wasn’t perfect. Cardboard isn’t the easiest thing to draw on cleanly. For added texture, I glued on some small beads and bits of foil that I had lying around.
Then came the painting. I dug out some old acrylic paints I had from another project. I started with a base coat of silver to make them look kind of metallic. Then I carefully painted in the different colored sections, trying to match the original rings. This took some time because I had to wait for each layer to dry before adding the next.
Once the paint was dry, I added a layer of clear sealant. I just used some clear nail polish, to be honest. I wanted to give them a bit of a shine and protect the paint from chipping. This made them look a little more polished and less like cardboard.
Finally, I tested them out. They were a bit clunky and definitely not as fancy as the ones on the show, but they were recognizable as Power Rangers rings. It was pretty fun to slip them on and pretend to morph, even if it was just in my living room.
So, that’s how I spent my day making some DIY Power Rangers rings. It was a fun little project, and it brought back some good childhood memories. They’re not perfect, but I’m happy with how they turned out.
- First: Find images for reference.
- Second: Use cardboard for the base.
- Third: Draw and add details with markers, beads, and foil.
- Fourth: Paint with acrylics, starting with a silver base.
- Fifth: Seal with clear nail polish for shine and protection.
Takeaways
It was a fun, simple craft project. It proves that you can make pretty cool stuff with basic materials. Sometimes, you just need a little bit of creativity!
